Air Filter Problems / Decisions

Just got a Phase one 1.4 VSX. I want to get an air filter but im stuck on which one to get.
I would like a cone filter because of the added sound but ive heard these reduce power / throttle responce. And a enclosed direct feed air filter is too pricey.
Ive been told i can have a cone filter and put it inside the standard airbox to reduce it sucking in hot air from the engine, How do i do this?

Please post any links to kits that i could buy that would do a good job.

Just keep your standard airbox and put a green cotton uprated panel filter in, slight better airflow and wont be too costly, about £30 i think...

You'll never gain much real bhp form an uprated airfilter on its own, only when combined with exhaust and other breathing mods will you really notice any difference..

A cone filter can reduce power but isnt definitely going to do that.

For sound just get a k&n or pipercross.

yh new panel filter is your best bet and is good on the pocket

a cone filter is at risk of sucking in hot air from the enginebay. This will mostly happen when you are stopped or traveling at a slow speed. At higher speeds there is a lot of air moving through the enginebay, but this can often be heated by the radiator> if the filter is at the back of the enginebay then the air is passing over the engineblock too. Its why many go for the forced induction kits as these get a better supply of cold air
