0-60

what are a few things i can do to my 1.6i 8v (03) citreon saxo to improve its 0-60???
  2. #2
Well what have you done to it so far, performance wise?

Stripping it out is a good place to start.
  3. #3
could do usaul things new sports exhaust system , enclosed induction kit then if you want to spend a bit of money buy some new cams
  4. #4
well i havent done anything yet but i wanna spend lol!
  5. #5
strip it out, get a decent manifold, exhaust system, induction kit first of all.
  6. #6
go for new cams , cold air feed induction kit and a whole new exhaust system
  7. #7
and also, well fitting an uprated air filter panel give is a sporteir engine note???
  8. #8
road legal slicks and a decent clutch, then prepare to be amazed at the difference
  9. #9
maybe depends how much you want to spend but a open induction kit gives it a sporty sound when ya put your foot down but for better performance get a enclosed 1 mate
  10. #10
    why were my posts deleted?

as i said in post that was deleted, strip weight from the car as it is free (back seats). Improve your clutch control, dont hit the limiter as power is normally dropping off by this point, should be able to feel it.

Get some breathing mods i.e manifold , exhaust system, air intake sorted.
Have a search around see what induction kits people use and exhaust systems. Most will say bmc or raceland enclosed with a green filter.
Some decent tyres as well, as stated above.
  11. #11
road legal slicks i like the sound of them where can i g

rab myself some of them and how much will i be out of pocket??? arnt race cluthes like 3k lol?!?!?
  12. #12
Get a vts engine even after the cams and all these goodies the vts will show you who the boss is
  13. #13
yea i noticed after 6000rpm yr heads going forwards not backwards...so these slicks seem like the most sensible thing im to scared with this induction kits i think its aimed to typical boy-racers.....rather than someone who wants a half decant power band.

a paddle clutch and uprated clutchplate would at a guess cost you about £300. road legal slicks will be about £110 per wheel for a 15" wheel

To add to the cheap mod pile how about 13" alloys and lowish profile wheels. This will lower the gearing, be less rotational weight so you will accelerate quicker!
  18. #18
not just for boy racers mate just giving better air flow to the engine
  19. #19
    right ok so:

sport manifold down , including de-cat 3"??? i dont care about wat it looks like or sounds.....want the 0-60

    inclosed air intake preventing heat...

    uprated cams

so its now producing 99 bhp will these get it over 100???
  20. #20
they come with 13 inch wheels standerd lmao
  21. #21
    what do?

    VTR wheels are 14s.

try changing at 5,600 rpm for optimum peformance?
  22. #22
    lol opps!
    10" minilites it is then
  23. #23
well i gota go now, cheers for the help guys love the sound of the slicks....and the de-cat!!!!!!!

id strip as much as you possibly can out of it

    lower ratio gearbox

    some decent tyres

decent manifold and second hand exhaust of a decent sort

if you change the manifold on your car that will de-cat it, decent zorst system and induction kit i can see it producing more than 100bhp as standard your model is meant to be 98bhp..... so they say....
with cams you will certainly be over the 100bhp mark.

But after all that money spent would be cheaper for performance to get a vts engine but thats not what everyone wants to do
  30. #30
If your engine is 98 bhp standard you would be looking at 120bhp atleast with exhaust, mani, cam and remap!!
  31. #31
he needs torque to get him to 60 qucikly forget about bhp
  32. #32
Sourch a set of light weight 106rallye Steel rims, Decent tyres, strip everything out apart from your drivers seat and the dash, a RaceLand 4-2-1 4branch manifold and a Ashley cat back exhaust system and your lookin around £150 Ashley system, £130 4branch, £37per steelie and whatever tyres cost So for like £400 you could be postin some very impressive times.

More bhp will help if you launch it at say 3500rpm..
  34. #34
torque is what moves the car without that you will be fooked
  35. #35
    Yeah i agree.

    But

Most mods improve BHP not torque so much and like i said launch at 3.5k and your away.
  36. #36
ok , ok i just fitted a cold air intake...

no noticle performance apart from a sexual growl...

    what next???

    WHAT?!?! lol
James.... the only thing an engine produces is torque, therefore any mods to the engine, intake, exhaust will affect the torque... the only exception is the upping of the rev limiter, provided the cams and ignition timings are able to provide sufficent torque at uber high revs.

hp is a function of engine rpm and torque.

btw Im just chilling from revision. im doing well.

its cam mate NOT cams! the VTR is 8v which means single cam the S is 16v and has twin cams

but to answer the original question, get yourself a full cat back exhaust system, and a 4-2-1 manifold, these along with a decent enclosed induction kit will allow your car to braeth better and increase acceleration, but the best mod of all for improving 0-60 times is to strip it out right to the shell! so carpets, rear seats, dash board etc, depends how wild you wanna go with it and what its for!

obviously if its for road use you might wanna keep it legal and leave the dash in

a cold air feed will not see any performance alone

read some of the sugestions as to what todo next

easiest is to strip bits you dont need from car

VTS/Gti gearbox would probably make the most noticable 0-60 difference other than a cam, and alot cheaper than buying it and the complementary parts.

Around £200 fitted give or take.

If it is a 3 plug ecu i wouldnt bother with a remap, sell it and get a single plug VTS.
  44. #44
depends on what you want it for and how much you want to spend?

is it for the drag strip?

you could strip the interior, leave one seat in?
get a good clutch with lightend flywheel
    106 ralleye box
    4-1 manifold
    de-cat,
    full system
    enclosed filter
    head work
    uprated cam
    hig comp pistons
standard ecu remaped and rev limit raised
    road legal slicks

best mod of all is bigger brakes, this means you can go a bit further before slamming the anchors on

the list is endless mate, i know what its like lol you want more power and say i will only look at spending 1k then you want more power and spend another 1k then more lol

set a target for what you want at the end and work towards that, getting mods that will compliment each other
