Rattling break pads!

  1. #1
Had this problem with my previous car too and no mechanic could solve it! One garage had the car 3 times and failed to make the rattle go away, I told him to replace the calipers but he refused flatly to do so.

    THE PROBLEM

Unless I'm breaking the break pads rattle like mad in the calipers, breaking with any pressure stops the noise dead. I've been told the retainers need replacing/modifying but is this the actual problem as I've already had my first garage fail to amend the rattle! Kwik-fit have told me they won't need to change calipers too but they will charge £2k I can imagine.

are all the clips in place

    try re newing them first

are they the right pads for the car

I believe they are the right ones, kwik-fit fitted them along with new disks and they were quiet at first. After about 3.,000 miles they started getting noisy.

If its just the clips I'll try and find a garage that can change them. The last garage bent them back to shape but it didn't make a difference for any miles.

sounds strange mate, from my experience dont go to kwik fit they are crap

I can guarantee the sliding retainers are either loose or incorrectly fitted. take the pads out and go over the surface of the caliper with a wirebrush then you can buy the fitting kit from a motor factors which includes the sliding retainers.
