Need some advise

  1. #1
    Hi peeps,

Could someone help me? I want to modify my car (engine wise) but my insurance comp doesn’t like modded cars, so I was thinking about modding it without looking different.

I had the idea of making a custom supercharger to fit inside the standard air intake system, of course it would only be using the plastic covers but inside would be a performance induction kit, along with this custom supercharger.

I've seen these superchargers on eBay with some crappy 12v motor, which is meant to give a saxo an extra 10% more power. I do know I would need at least a 24v motor that can push out around 500watts to even have an effect.

Can anyone advise me on whether or not this is possible, oh and also are these capacitors eBay sell any good?

you obviously not seen the threads in the engine section? the concept could work but to get the motor to spin enough to gain bhp you will need a trailor and a gigantic generator on the back

I did read that getting a 24v motor to produce at least 500 watts of power could make an effect, although would need to be able to push a lot of air pressure

hmm you may get away with a cam but is it worth the risk? You could probably fit an oe replacement filter too. If your car is written off though there is a risk these items may get found. How long before your insurance runs out?

Well i've only had the car for 3 months so about another 9 months left! Just need to find an insurer who I can be a named driver with on a modified car

Does anyone know of one, or is anyone doing this?

Was only asking, don't have to take the piss.....

    Was a good one though...lol
  21. #21
so your a named driver, yet i expect the car is driven by you all the time??

    mummy and daddys insurance then?
  22. #22
right as you are a named driver an insurance company will probably have a good look at investigating who really drives the car all the time. Your best bet is to hold fire as any excuse to not pay will be used if they have even a mild suspicion that your parents do not drive the car. Get your own policy in 9 months and save up enough to do a load of mods too :d

I tried getting a quote through Adrian Flux for a modded 2000 vtr which was lowered and s/s exhaust.

    They wanted £2,200!!!

I've crashed one car and have no ncb

I'm a name driver and nowhere on the policy does it say i can only do a certain number of miles in the car..

my insurance company is good though, i have all my mods declared and it hasn't cost me anything extra, still paying £200 fully comp for a year..

With no NCB and a proven accident would you have not been better finding a Furio?

I agree with a few of the others just drive the car till you can afford to insure it under your name.

Its better in the long run really

I've always wanted a vtr/vts and didn't want a furio, i'm only paying 400 and even with a 1.1 i would be paying at least 800 on my own... just can't afford it.
