standard discs

I did pads the otherday but it would seem the discs need doing now as the pads are still rubbing on the disc lip after driving around for about 600miles. haynes manual recommends that when you change the discs your should fit new pads, but as they are a couple of hundred miles old will it be ok to just do the discs? I'm assumin that this is in cases where pads havent been change for a few 1000 miles.

Also are the discs easy to do?

    Cheers all

changed the discs and pads on my vtr the other day, was quite simple, not much more work than changing just pads. Prob could get away with just changing your disks as pads are new. But if you want some half decent brakes you can get a mintex brake box of ebay for about 40 quid including p and p which is discs and pads which are suited to each other. Got them on mine and i would recomend them for the price. Much better than my old ones

yes mate, you should always replace them as a full set, new discs and pads together.
    discs are really easy mate.
loosen the nuts on the wheel.
jack the car up and place on axle stands.
    remove nuts and the wheel.
loosen the torx head screw that locates the disc in position, remove the 2 19mm hex head bolts that hold the caliper to the strut, knock the disc off, clean up the hub where the disc sits, place some copper slip/grease to the hub face, fit new disc, refit the torx location screw. clean disc with a cleaner or meths, romve old pads, clean up calipers faces, place copper slip on the back face of the new pads (stops any brake squel) then re-fit, tighten the caliper back onto stut, refit wheel, lower car and tighten wheel studs

you may need to push the piston of the caliper back a bit to get the pads to open enough to fit over new thicker discs, do this by pushing the handle of a hammer into the piston

    hope that helps matey

yeah my discs were a right pain to get off. I undid the screws holding it to the hub but it was stuck solid. I had to give them a good wallop with a mallet. Needed a good smack so dont hold back.

okies kl, well i have mintex pads and fitting kit now. does the caliper need to come off to replace the discs? cheers for that info boz, reped

yep, you need to undo the 2 hex head bolts on the back of the caliper, they hold it onto the strut. think they are 19mm. make sure that you cable tie the caliper to the suspension spring, this stops and stress on the brake hoses and keeps them out the way. then when your done, just cut the cable ties and 'roberts you farthers brother'
