Want to lower my sax, please help!!

  1. #1
I'm looking to lower my sax but don't have much money and wanted to simply change the springs.

Is this a good idea? Also only want to lower 30mm and wondered if I would still need to move the power steering pump hose line.

I would really appreciate some help.

I apologise if this has already been covered, couldn't find anything under search.

Lowering 30mm on just springs is fine... it may just slightly shorted the life of your standard shocks...

The PAS steering pipe should be checked when lowering any mk2 saxo... it is a simply job of just bending the pipe up so it doesn't rub... and it is explained in the premium how to guide section

In that guide it says to bend the pipe but on mk1 pumps this is not required. Is that true?

If so i've got a spare mk1 pump!

    doesnt say anything about pumps

Its the pipe from the mk1 that tends not to rub on the arm, whether you have this particular pipe is unlikely as you only say you ahve the pump. Takes 2 mins to check and 30 seconds to fix

Springs are fine down to as far as 40mm, any lower and Id say save your money till you can afford a full kit.

Have a look on either www.performancecentre.co.uk or www.motorsportworld.co.uk for good prices on springs or trusty old eBay is a good start.

Wouldnt be tempted to buy second had items tho.

Cheers guys for your help! I'm just going to lower her 30mm just on springs, do you think the rear torsion bar will need lowering the same or slightly more?

I've got a mk2 but have a mk1 pump in my garage so might just change it to insure is doesn't rub.

so you say the pipe would take only a couple of minutes to change?

Its not the pump thats the problem, its one of the pipes that runs along the bulkhead..

It only takes a few minutes to bend the pipe out of the way, its the easiest and cheapest way of fixing it.

You don't change it, you just bend it...

Read the how to guide link in my reply above...

EDIT: typical scott, the abundant book of saxo knowledge getting in there first

    Oh sorry, got ya now...lol

I've got a cold so i'm blaming my stupidity on that...lol

If its that easy i'll do it soon, the springs are really cheap too!!

    Well for Pi springs anyway...

Its worth checking it and moving it anyway even if your on standard suspension as I was told they wear anyway but speeded by lowering.

Unless you want the A-Team look to the car even a 30mm drop at the front will need the torsion bars moved a notch - the bloke who done mine reckons that the first turn on the torsion bar drops the rear around 30mm-35mm but not spot on to the mm.

Mine was lowered 40mm on spax springs on standard shocks, after 50 odd thousand miles the shocks are still fine, but i'm replacing it all with billies for track now..

Souldnt have too many problems with the standard socks just slow down over speedbumps to stop them destroying themselves and to save the wishbones..

Thats the wrong way to lower it though

for a 30mm drop check out the Eibach Pro-kit

apparently the H and R kit is doing a fine job for VTSarah

    Cheers guys for your help!

I'm looking to get a suspension set but at the mo i can only afford the springs and seeing as though it would last a long time i might go for that... although a full system would make a prob job

Are the springs a straight swap on the mk1? no p.steering pipe 2 worry about
