Modded Saxo VTR 2000 Performance Problems

  1. #1
I have had my blue Saxo VTR for over a year now and although it is a real looker, it is lacking on the performance side.

I know that a lot of bodykit will slow a car down, i am not prepared to do away with the kit however! Someone told me yesterday that my 17" alloy wheels will also slow the car down - is this true? My car only just scrapes to 100mph and this is a car that is meant to do 127mph!

How can i increase the top end speed? Will a racing cam help, or maybe a racing gear? Can anyone give me some advice? Does anyone know a garage in Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire or even Devon or Avon that can improve the performance of my car?

PLEASE HELP...............100MPH IS NOT FAST ENOUGH FOR ME!

hey emma 17" will affect the performance slightly but mainly handling. short gears and cams will increase performance but mainly accelertaion you could always have it remapped or chipped hope this helps

To be honest 17" wheels may make a slight different but def not the different between 100mph and 127mph. People on here can only advise. You need to go to a garage to find the real reason for the performance problem. Could be a 100 different things, ECU, manifold, head gasket, not firing properly.

Although i need to point out that driving over 100MPH regularly even in a VTR is going to kill your engine very quickly. Top speed is only an indication of what the car can do if need be. Driving at this speed all the time will wear down your head gasket and possibly blow your engine.

Also driving over 70MPH on any road is illegal so be careful what you say on here cause the police DO monitor the forums on a regular basis.

Regarding making performance better you are looking at a decat with straight through exhaust system and heat wrapped 4-2-1 manifold and also an enclosed induction kit. These are the cheaper options and could add upto 10/12BHP as some ppl have claimed (cant confirm).

If you want decent power you are looking at an aftermarket cam kit and/or aftermarket pistons and everything else uprated. But these cost serious money and unless you plan on track days are prob not worth it.

have you changed the rolling radius of the wheels? Bigger rolling radius will change the gearing hurting accelleration plus they are also heavy

only if ur in the uk if how ever ur in germnay and have acces on a regular basis to the autobahn foot to the floor lol

    as already stated.
a cam, ported and polished head, vernier pulley, 4-1 manifold, de cat and full system would free up a few ponnies, but it would all need mapping on a rolling road to get the best from it

the bigger wheels will decrease acceleration but should give a little bit extra top end, from what i have herd.

have you got a mad big bodykit it?? it may be effecting the drag of the car lol
