which brakes?

I'm abit of a newbie when it comes to brakes so sorry for not having a clue what I'm on about! I've got an 03 vts and looking to uprate the front and rear discs since I only just passed an mot for having worn pads and I never thought the brakes were that good anyway, they will be going under the standard 15" vts rims.
What are the best and biggest size brakes I could fit and prefferably new without spending stupid money? (£1k+). What would I need or would it all come as part of a kit? Cheers.

Willwood and HiSpec do fairly good 4 pot calipers and are a cheap'ish option. If you want to go a little more budget than that, you could go for some second hand calipers from a 306GTI6 or a 206 GTI 180. The brake pads play a strong role in the performance of the overal brake set up, so don't skimp on those, and don't buy some random disks from Ebay either, they'll probably warp...

Also, I wouldn't change the calipers on the rear, there's no real need. I think over 70% of your overall braking is provided by the front, so just stick with that. There's no reason why you couldn't put some better pads on the rears though...

    Couple of options really

    1) upgrade the standard disc's and pads with uprated items - same size as OE items - EBC, Brembo, Mintex, Black Diamond there are plenty on the market. Grooved discs and fast road Pads will see a increase in braking power - too a point.

    2) Swap to a slightly bigger dis and caliper set up from another car - 206GTi Disc's and Calipers is a straight swap - So Im told - then do the same as option one but now with the slightly bigger front brake setup. Your see a Much better gain here as the discs are big and with a bigger pad to grip them on a smaller car then what they where designed for your bound to stop on a penny.

    3) Converting to a big brake setup with bigger disc and more pot calipers than standard - Expensive but very good - personally unless you was going on the track or was runing TurboCharger/SuperCharger/Trottle bodies etc I wouldnt bother going to this extent.

Option 2) with uprated 206GTi aftermarket grooved discs and fast road pads with aftermarket uprated VTS rear items should be fine - like mentioned unless you planning big big power mods and alot of track action.

For all items take a look at www.performancecentre.co.uk , www.motorsportworld.co.uk and www.cituning.ltd.uk hope some of that is of some help to you

i would say that the 283mm setup that is found on the 306 gti-6 and 206 180 gti are more than enough for a saxo unless you are going to be tearing around a track with silly power and stupid speeds.

i have these on my car and they fit behind the 15" vts alloys, but not the 14" vtr alloys.

these with braided hoses, uprated pads, uprated brake fluid and a full brake bleed would be shit hot, i can nearly get my car to do endos and i can outbrake a load of bigger cars than mine

the 206 gti 180 setup fits direct onto the saxo struts and dosnt need any modifying to the caliper.

the 306 gti-6 are slightly different design caliper, im not 100% if they need grinding a small amount to clear the strut??

Yes mate. I've got the 306 GTI calipers on my car, and to get a perfect fit, you need to grind a diddy amount off the caliper.

206 gti 180 all the way, on first time no mods, pads are so easy to change too
same size as the 306 gti-6 but newer lol
