1600 To Spend On A Gti

  1. #1
im going to buy a gti the engines done 100k, but im thinking of getting a newer low mileage engine and sendind the head off for some big valve and port and polish, then thinking of getting some cams for it, labour for putting it in isnt included as ill pay for that out my wage but whats that going to cost me and is it worth doing or what would you do!! its already got a bmc 4 branch fulll stainless, but want some serious gains without going down the turbo route as it will beto expensive!

better off just fitting the bigger valved head from a pug 206 xsi - would be cheaper

    is it a straight fit!

Have I read the title of the thread wrong? lol

    1600 -> £1600?

what are engines going for nowadays...still £500? Plus £200 for cams roughly, you could get your head built for about £700-£1000 for a proper job

id buy a better engine, have work done on that, then have it fitted in. u can pick up a really low milage engine for about £300-£500 then spend the rest on the mods..

You wouldn't use the 16v lump in a 106 GTI?

you cant just fit the 206 head to a saxo/gti block, as you will have very low compression.

also, dont just go for the most expensive head. get 1 to match your cams and induction.

a skim of the block or head will be a lot cheaper than the big valves

theres also the 'what cam' issue when fitting cams. as saxo comes dont sit centrally on the lifters and teh 708s and equivelant ahve too much lift fo the 206/c2 valve springs.

id get an induction full exhaust system and manifold and cams and remap

Haven't you just had the VTR cammed?
  17. #17
    Brakes and suspension?

Do you go to the track alot or will use the Gti at its maximum potential alot on the roads?

As will you really need to make it faster?

yeh had the vtr cammed but sold the vtr now! and yesterday bought another piper cam which came out of a damaged vtr, shh i only paid 70quid for it! ive also got a vts at home and due to me not finding a gti that i like today im going to keep the vts! so no dought you will see a thread asking for help with the vts!
