Horsepower increase

  1. #1
I have a 1.1 saxo and obviously want to increase the power i can get out of it.
I cannot afford much at the moment. Are there anyways of doing this without spending loads. Does fitting an induction kit work? and does removing the catalytic converter have any effect? Help me plz!!
  2. #2
a small difference yes, not noticeable really
  3. #3
induction kit will give u slightly better response but will not really give u exta bhp a decat will give u about 1-3 bhp but id say for the money is worth it as its louder as well!

iduction kits give u more bhp if u read max power lol. these only work if u have other engine mods and even then they dont gee u much to write home about
  5. #5
all an induction kit does is let the engine have as much air cubic as it wants unlike all standard air boxs are reiscted for better fuel ecomoeny thats it!!

induction kits will do nothing on a 1.1, waste of money
best mod for power if probally a decat without spending loads of money, but id spend my money on lowering the car and going round bends faster because at the end of the day, its only a 1.1 !!

would get some alloys, get it lowered and a back box. that will cost you about £500. i wouldnt bother trying to increase the power on a 1.1 as it just wont be worth the money. unless you drop a VTR/S engine in it.

best thing to do is to save your money mate, and then buy a VTR or VTS

get a cheap open air filter & nip to homebase and get some tube to use as a cold air feed.

Will cost you pennies and whilst it might only give you an extra pony or 2 it will definatly put a smile on your face when u plant your foot down

torque is what you need not bhp torque is what makes ya move

Thanks for the ideas, probally leave it as it is at the moment and save up for a better car. How much can u get a VTS for these days??

Can anyone give me a link for a website (british) which sells a decat for a 1.1 saxo??

You can get a mk1 with about 80k on the clock for about £1300 but insurance isnt cheap! group 14 or you could get a nice tidy mk1 vtr for the same price group 7 ive had both mk2 vts & 106 gti iam now running a mk2 vtr best of both worlds cheap to run, insure& go well to with a few mods!

Insurance is the biggest factor as im only 16 and not many insurance companys take on 16 year olds
  16. #16
well i would imagine no insurance company would insure a 16 year old on a car, a scooter yes
  17. #17
well ive got insurance on my current saxo
  18. #18
what does it cover you for, fire & theft?
  19. #19
    and third party
  20. #20
thats what fire and theft is

    think outside the box !!!

they key is power to weight ratio, hence the best way to improve the performance of a 1.1 is to strip any excess weight.
get rid of the interior and spare wheel for a start.

its a fruitless task trying to improve the power of a 1.1

So your 16 and are insured on a car?
  25. #25
save your money! get it lowered and leave it at that, least you can go round corners faster
  26. #26
40-60mm drop and going round corners will be rather entertaining depending how brave your feeling
  27. #27
De-Cat it.. Lower It and keep to standard size alloys.. put a strut on it to make the steering a lil better.. strip the whole car and just leave your seat in it.. now take it for a lil spin.. keep your foot pinned round the bends i bets you any money you'll have a good bit of fun wif a big smile on your face ..
  28. #28
de-cat...how the hell are you insured on a car at 16? hope you're not driving it as thats illegal right?!

fit an induction kit but an enclosed filter with a cold air feed the colder the air you get in your engine the more power! i fitted one to my 1.4 with a cold air feed and its good and cheap

more power and no cash dont work very well imo.
