fly wheel

I want to lighten my fly wheel i know sombody who can make it lighter. But when you put te flywheel back
do you need to do anything special.

Will it make my 1.4 saxo accelerate faster
  2. #2
r u lanning to trim it or change the part? How much will it cost mate?
From what i've heard it does make a difference...
  3. #3
not really applicable on a saxo

www.gmcmotorsport.co.uk cant remember if it explains why on there but it probably does
  4. #4
I know somebody if i give him the flywheel he wil trim it for me for free.
  5. #5
think scotts tryin to say that u may aswell leave as is because it wont make any difference and if u r not changin it surely it willbecome weaker!

I know he is saying that
but i heard it really makes your car accelerate faster
and I don't want to make it to light so my engine stil acts normal. because when you make it more then 30%lighter your engine is a bit weird when your car is standing still while your engine is running
  7. #7
yea buying a lighter flywheel makes your aceleration faster but i think they cost alot although i aint sure
  8. #8
but I'm just gonna make it lighter, costs less than
  9. #9
orite well i have no idea then
  10. #10
i cant remember the exact problems associated with it, well its not problems its the that it doesnt really benefit that much for the hassle. if i dont get to drunkill do some research later
  11. #11
    thanks I would appreciate that
  12. #12
i was going to trim mine but i heard that once you trim it and make it lighter, it also weakens the flywheel and then your flywheel breaks after a couple of weeks.
  13. #13
never heard about that. maybe if you take of to much
  14. #14
its hapoended to lots people before, but try it i might work
  15. #15
    that sounds dodgy
  16. #16
never take of more than 1,5 kg other wise your engine will do strange things.

and even i never heard of breaking flywheels
  17. #17
Have you had it done? citrovts?
  18. #18
no not yet, but im going to do it next year when i change the gearbox, but im getting a a sec. flywheel of a scrappy and going to let that lightend bu 1 kg that should get me 30% more accel.
  19. #19
so you are going to take of 1kg do you know how to get it of the engine? maybe some pics or a workshop
  20. #20
this is may opinion o wot has bin said,

to me if ur gonna do sumat like this get one made or one that is ready made cus it will be made stronger, if u do it to urs obviously it will become weaker that obvious so my opinion is get a unrated fly wheel or sumat instead of takin sum of urs off! but its ur call matey!

swijnsm lets us know the results once you get it done
  22. #22
    OK will do!!!!
  23. #23
You have to take gearbox off, then your clutch to get to the flywheel. Its bolted on with 4 bolts iirc. Bit of a major job to do!

Not sure if it'll make much difference though!
  24. #24
my gearbox is going to be taken of tomorrow, swijnsm was wondering if you got your flywheel trimmed yet?!?!
  25. #25
it will cause bad inertia if i remember correctly, which will affect idle rpm.
it will give better accelaration, pretty obvious as less mass to move but it will most likely be unoticable and imo is not worth the hassle.
as for breaking a flywheel how much was skimmed, 2/3mm+ ?
  26. #26
thats what i heard too, once your engine gets more powerfull by modding it, than the trimmed flywheel could break
  27. #27
also its suppose to make a lot difference on performance on the 1st and 2nd gear
