Which tyres...

...for everyday use do people recommend?

I have a set of 16inch wheels and 2 tyres need replacing.

Currently have Conti Sport 195/40 16s and torn between buying another pair of these for a new front axle set or Toyo T1R or Yokohama A539 leaving the other pair of Contis for the rear?

Any suggestions people??? It's been a while since I've repped anyone

everyone/almost everyone is gonna say Proxes mate, had no problems with mine in dry or wet with traction, so Toyo it is!

That's good news Baz! Toyos work out at less than £120 delivered. The Contis are nearly £200!!!

You should try www.camskill.co.uk I think they are the cheapest around. Their prices include VAT and delivery.

Toyo t1r's on mine, never lost traction in dry or wet. Brilliant tyres..

Toyo Prokes are my personal faves! Love them especially in the wet gimme a lot of confidence to cane the shit out of it!
  12. #12
ye the proxies are mint, i have one continetal sport on my car and tbh its complete shit compared to the toyos!
  13. #13
I bought dunlop sport thinking they were British and turns out they are made in Germany! Very happy with them otherwise.

Iv found that the Yoko A539's are very good in the dry, but can be a bit temprimental in the wet conditions!

I posted a thread a week or 2 back cus i need some new rubber for mine too. There was alot of love for the Proxies although not as many people voted for them as i would have expected so i still think when i have to bite the bullet im gonna go for the Eagle F1s

most people will say toyo's or what ever... great grip but pretty softish compound (hence decent grip).

what do want out of the tyres... endurance or grip man?

eagle f1's are slightly harder but will last a load longer. depends what you want like... something that will cope with granny style driving, slightly spirited driving, of fast road driving...

    i agree with Mr Sayer..

Toyos are good, but wear far too fast.

Same here i go for toyos, but as said they dont last as long as i would like them to as they are a soft compound.

another tyre i like, were the unrioyal rainsport 1's.

i had them on my corsa, and were fanstastic !!

Got proxies on mine but have only had them on for 2 months, good grip but cant really comment on how long there gonna last.

Had Pirelli P6000's on my fiesta, lasted ages and grip was good as well.

or if you can live with a little less grip... although still fine for normal driving.

michelin eco's last forever... had them on my C3 and got changed after 40000 miles lol

    T1Rs = Good
    T1Ss = Cack

I hate T1S in the wet. Very bad.

To be fair, you cant go wrong with Toyos for performance and everyday driving.

However, im going for Colway intermediate slicks next!

The main problem is the size! I'm limited by the fact I want a 195 40 16. Don't really need the best grip available as I'monly using the car infrequently and will have a set of track tyres on some other wheels. Best compromise really!

I've got to say I like the feel of the Continentals - but the price on the Toyos drew me more towards them.

40% cheaper, but will the Contis last 40% longer???

If you drive somewhat normally with the Toyo Proxes, they WILL last. If you go spinning from every traffic light, well... Great budget price IMO.

i recently got sum proxie t1-r's on my car, they r great tyres i reckon the ebst uc an get for the money. compared to p zero's like my mate has on his saxo, the last longer becuase of their slightly harder compound, so a good choice otherwise asofter tyre u will alwasy keep havin to replace.

40 profile 16 inchers are an odd size and few and far between. When I had 16s, I could only find Toyo T1Rs.

And as for the Contis... ent got a clue! lol

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3. I have Toyos on at the moment, the GYs are much better
  28. #28
Eagle F1s are pretty damn lush
  29. #29
Just out of curiosity, why do you think the F1's are better? I'm not disagreeing...

The Proxes were improved when they went from the T1S to the T1R, the T1S have a similar tread pattern to the F1. With the newer T1R, they designed 2 groves which run close to the edge, and they break up the 'V' pattern, as the 'V' pattern has a tendance to twist during cornering...

F1s give about twice as much feedback through the tyre. Love the F1s
