    Is it worth it ?

will it make a noticable difference ?

basically i want something with a bit better acceleration and speed but cant afford the insurance of something else yet so for now is it worth it ?

i wouldnt bother mate, you wont notice hardly any difference.
Save your money for the next car

    Or

Strip strip strip its FREE and you'll see a noticeable difference with no cost on the insurance BONUS!!

Superchips are shite mate, stripping the car out is a great way to do it.

Any engine even a small cc engine will see a benefit from breathing mods such as a change in airfilter and a slightly less restrictive exhaust system but its all a case of is it worth it?

On a more highly spec'd model most people would say yes, on a lower spec'd car most would say no.

But its you car, so if you havent done already -

    Stick a induction kit on
    Change the Back box

Although these wont transform the car into a fire breathing monster it will increrase the enjoyment factor out of the car mainly from the increased noise from the engine and exhaust.

As for Superchips - dont get condoned into thinking these will improve performance. Only properly remaped ecu's will make a difference and unless your changing cam profiles the ecu should be able to adjust fueling for breathing mods like exhausts and airfilters.

    Hope thats of some help

/\ /\ I agree completely with the above!

If you get a full decat system and an induction kit you'll free up a few BHP and it'll sound quality (depending on the system you choose).

In ref to the exhaust its worth mentioning that smaller engines need a smaller bore pipework exhaust to produce power as they need more help to make back pressure - which is what helps produce torque.

If you was to have a too larger a bore exhaust with say a straight throught Jap style can this would probally lower power than add it as the gases are exiting the system too fast and can not generate back pressure.

My best advice is probally to keep your cat, lose the centre box and then just fit a nice sports back box like a Peco or Sportex as they are cheap, Id avoid large bore straight through cans for the reasons mentioned before.

Somepeople will say its not worth wasting money trying to tune a smaller cc engine but I dont agree, as long as you dont go silly with expensive stuff - its what you learn on your first few cars (normally small cc) that you take onto bigger more powerfull cars

when you strip your car, your insurance is more money pal.
as you declare it a 1 or 2 seater.

You can get round that - If you had a knock and insurance company looked at the car you can say 'You was moving items in the back of the car and you removed the interior so it wouldnt get dirty or damaged'

After all why would anyone else take their interior out

Although, Roll Cages and Buckets seats might give the game away lol

Indeed. Didn't actualy know you had to say it was a two seater. Bloody hell! I'm with HIC so dont have to worry bout stuff like that. They never seem to load my premium whatever I do to it.

    ^^^

Stick a turbo on it then see what they have to say about your premium lol
  12. #12
    well,
    you taking your interior out
is similar to me replacing my tailpipe for a 5" Jap can and saying "My old one rotted through, this is all Kwik Fit had."
  13. #13
I'm gonna fit one just to see if they load the premium

I love some of those excuses! A guy by me has a 300bhp 4wd Jap import Celica and he's got it insured as a Standard 2ltr English model. I told him he wasn't insured. He said his excuse was how was he supposed to know!!! Nice one!

Getting a little off topic sorry mate.

hehehehe - Not a Full Shilling lol nice one

This topic came up not so long ago, a lighter car will alway mack up for its lack of bhp with its lightness. My mate had a coming together with a C2 VTR (110bhp) now he's only got a clapped out 1.3 Micra all be it a twin cam 16v jobbie but the VTR couldnt lose him through country lanes.

So it goes to prove 'Power isnt everything'

well it is, what if you have a powerful car that is also light as ever.
