miles to a full tank of petrol

  1. #1
is it just my car or do all 1.4's miles to a full tank suck ass, im doing about 300 surely that cant be right?

or is it and im expecting too much ive owned my saxo for a good 8 months now and its never really bothered me until my brother pointed out that hes does 300 to a third of a tank (he does drive a diesel!) makes me want diesel or should i not be thinking such impure thoughts?!

just sucks to do such little mileage to filling up with £35 a time

is this right and can anything be done to improve this?

ps my right foot isn't that heavy i just drive my car pretty much average and don't rag it

    thanks in advance

    i got a 1.1 and £24 of petrol gets me 300 miles

not sure mate, i did a test the other day and got 85 miles on £10 in my vtr with full s/s system de-cat and 4-2-1 manifold, and i do rag it quite a bit, but compared to ur 300 miles on £35 in a 1.4, seems a bit strange? are you sure no Jippos are syphoning ya petrol?
  4. #4
i get around 320 in a 1.6 vtr, and i use the gears!!
  5. #5
i get about 320 in my 1.4. dont worry about it. where do you get your fuel from?
  6. #6
Don't worry about it buddy. In my 1.4 on a full tank, I get about 400 miles and that is if I drive very carefully. No ragging (well not too much) and not going fast around roundabouts makes my fuel guage drop (tis odd).

On £10 of petrol I can only get 100/130 miles, what does yours do?
  7. #7
    i get 220 miles

I dont know about full tank cos I can never afford one but i get around 85 miles from a tenner from my 1.1 but that is town driving as i deliver chinese takeaway so constantly stopping and starting

it works out cheaper to fill up than keep putting little bits in at a time.

    cheers for you're responses guys!!!

i fill up at sainsburys because i get nectar points might aswel cant even think of a use for them but they're free!!

i feel bit better knowing that its not TOO bad but do you think that servicing my car may help it ya know replacing old parts with new and all that (i dont know what happens in a service!!)
what do you think will it help?!
  13. #13
i can get bout 4-450 out of a tank in my vts
  14. #14
depending on the way I drive a full tank minus the filler neck I reckon I could squeeze 300miles or just over but thats being really carefull.

Im happy if I can get through the week with only filling up once so I just take it as it comes really. I can honestly say I think my mpg increased with the lack of interior ie rear seats and other plastic items in that general area. Reckon my Steelies will make a difference as well now as they are much lighter than my S rims

lately on shell unleaded am getting 390! 10 miles motorway a day and 20 raking it on the stage

Before was serviced i got 250ish then after service 290ish adjusted my driving a bit 340 and since used shell fuel i get 390 used it for last 4 weeks now, only started using it as was cheaper than tesco!

240 miles to 30 quid in the VTS.
some of it was accelerating hard though

sainsburys petrol is grade 2 fuel so u wll get lower mpg. i get bout 100-150 on a tenner in my 1.4 and thats not foot downall the time but i have got a little bit of a heavy football on big roads. and little tight roads

ok you really are going to need to spend a bit of time working out if there is an issue. Forget monitoring your car on miles per tenner as its not really accurate. You need to work out your mpg and monitor the type of driving you are doing. I fill up every week and fill to the same point (two clicks on pump) By filling up to the top I know how much I used then work out the mpg from the odometer.

To see whether you should use a diesel you will need to do a bit of guessing but first you need to work out how much you are roughly spending a year.

Then you will need to guess an mpg for a diesel but 45mpg + is not too bad for town driving for a small engined diesel. Then you need to work out how much you would pay at 1 or 2pence per litre more than petrol, but also find out how much insurance and tax will be. Big engined diesels are usually more expensive.

You will find that you will probably need to do do a lot of miles to break even. I runa diesel as I am doing 30k+ a year. I spend £50 a week!!
Currently I am using V-power diesel at 99.9p a litre! because I can get better mpg that ofsets the price difference between regular and v-power

Driving mainly on country roads and ragging it a bit I did 300 miles on half a tank driving to skegness and back. And then the traffic came and it was all downhill from there.
