Peak power at what revs?

    Hey sorry for being a noob.

    Just wondering if anyone knows (and i presume they do) what the best time to change gear is if for example you wanted to achieve the 0-60mph time that citreon say the VTS can achieve, as i am unsure what it is, i know the revs go to about 6800rpm before hitting the redline but i do not think that this is the best time to change gear in terms of like to keep on pulling quickly to reaching that 7.7sec(?) 0-60mph time.

    It is a standard vts nothing modded about it....not yet anyway.

    And no, i do not intend on trying this on any road with other cars on it or any public road for that matter.

    Here's some tips, just my opinion...

    - A little bit of wheel spin off the mark is good, VTS's are high reving cars, so you need the revs up to start quick.
    - You need to find where you're power band is. Not that easy... Try accellerating through from low to high revs in 2nd and 3rd gear. Take it all the way to the limiter if required. Do this a few times, and try to get a feel as to where in the rev range the car seems to pull hardest.
    - Once you've found your power band, try and stay in it! You need to change up a gear (when doing a 0 - 60 for example) when you feel the power is starting to drop, BUT, don't change up too early, as this might put you too low down in the revs for the next gear. To sum all that bit it up, you need to find a compromise of where the best shift position is. I can bet that if you shift as soon as the power starts to drop, you will probably be too low in the RPM in the next gear. A little trial and error and you should get it spot on!

    vts' rev to 7200 aswell not 6800.

    keep it in 2nd all the way to limiter to get best 0 - 60 time aswell, changing to 3rd will use more time.

    when i race people 0-60, i change from 1st to second just at the redline and then my car jumps forward into second and from there i just stay in second as i can reach about 62mph in second gear...

    that is the way to get the 0-60 as the books state.

    At the start keep your revs at around 4500rpm, that'll give you some wheelspin, but high enogh revs to do a decent start.

    Depends on driver for launch rpm.

    In a vts changing gear at 7k or higher is best.

    remember it might be past maximum power but it will be making more power at 7.2k than at 5.5k in the next gear and will also have shorter gearing. I seem to remember in VTRs there's no point going over 6k really.

    proper gay way of doing is to get a rolling road print of the torque profile... then do a gear-split chart. profiling the wheel torque against speed. when each gear torque profile crosses is the point at which to change gear to acheive max acceleration.

    i find slippin the clutch as 3k most effective, but i have more power

    I suppose holding it somewhere around 5000rpm for a VTS is best for a standstill start. And then riding the clutch to reduce wheel spin, but keeping the revs up as you let it bite over a short time, as opposed to just dropping it.

    i hold it at about 3k, with the clutch nearly up and the car straining against the handbrake, kills the clutch but gives you a better start.

    i brought the clutch up quick at 2,200 and my car spins all the way to second.
    have reasonable tyres too, Michelin pilots.

    yea i ran them of a bit i only got 4k out of them till they were on canvas. i get 8-9k on the 888

    Try keeping your foot on the throttle when changing from 1st to 2nd it really gives you a kick if you can do it right, i only do this when im racing (private road) though.

    I was saying that they hit the redline at 6800? it doesnt go over to seven without being in the red?? Unless you have a different vts to me lol.

    I understand it may rev up to 7200 before hitting the limiter if that what you meant?

    Yeh, thats what he meant. 7200 is the limiter.

    i start of with about 2500 rpm lift the clutch slowly or shall say try to get the wheel squeaking not spinning and change into 2nd gear at about 6600rpm
