for removing the head so i can send it to QEP?

I work on jet engines so i'm no stranger to a spanner!

just after a few do's and dont's as i've never done this before.

also, is there anything else worth changing while the head is off?

I'm getting new cams, anything else?

    cheers guys

    Kev

    ahh, genious!

I've had a saxo for nearly 3 years and never thought to get one!

    I'm off to halfrauds!

cheers bud. easy rep for you!

lol i would scan it all for you to save some £££ but my scanner is broken, and i think once youve got a haynes you will be glad you got one.

    thisk they're only 15-20 quid.

i'm planning to do all furure mods myself so prob will come in very handy.

how about my second Q... is there anything else i can change (for better performance) while the head is off?
  6. #6
dont think theres much more really could take it one step further and get the engine stroked and bored and put hi performance pistons in

what are ppl on about when they talk about big valve heads?
is there any point? much gain? and where from, if it is worth it?
  8. #8
Ah forgot completly you can have the head ported and polished, basically meaning bigger wholes for the gasses to get in and out, bigger valves with bigger heads meaning more fuel getting in faster.

increasing the size of the valve surface area, to help increase airflow on the inlet side or exhaust side of the engine. theyre very good but by no means cheap, qep is £700 plus vat irc.. plus unless your running big cams i dont see a point personally.

if you have a std engine dont go faffing with the head as its just more ball ache imo.

what cams are you putting in? are you planning on going further along the line> remapping? as if so od the headowrk now

I'm gonna fit the ph3 newman cams.

and i will be getting it remapped after.

if you have the budget id get some headwork done now, rather than later.

it depends how much you want to keep spending and how far you want to go

This is what QEP are doing for me...

"We can gas flow your head on std valve sizes for £500 + vat
This includes gas flowing the ports, cuting valves seats & valves, new valve guides, skimming and re assembling the head."

In thick person terms does this mean it will be a big valve head with port and polish?

ahh, i just read it back to myself! "std valve sizes!" lol

std valve sizes means standard valves.

    its still good headwork.

should ring and speak to matt, he will advise you on if you need BV or not.
  14. #14
    whats BV?
  15. #15

no probs, id deffo recommend it, as he will explain what you get from him, and will not try and get you to buy the most expensive head from them if you dont need it, he will want to get it right for your needs.

    yup... you were right.

I told him it was for track use only and that i wasn't going down the road of forced induction or TBs. Told him all the other mods i have and he said there is no point in gettin big valves.

He was tryin to pursuade me to get the catcams over the newman ones tho.

I'm still not sure which to go for!

good good! didnt think you would need the BVH to be honest. matt is a top bloke..

he will try and pursuade you to go catcam as he sells em! personally id go catcams as they have proven results, although theyre not as cheap as the newmans. im still waiting for a proper rolling road printout on the newmans ppl

    right.... decision made finally!

    catcams 708s vs newman ph3s.

after comparing the profile data for each kit, this is what i found...

    cam..........708s.............ph3s
    duration....256deg.......264deg
    lift...........10mm...........11mm

so guess which i'm gonna go for!!!!!
