Gearbox options............?

    i need to replace my gearbox as its not well as to say. i know i can get another VTR one but i know also that people put VTS, 1.1 etc etc in instead. ive read bout 1.1 being shorter ranged and 1,5d being hardwearing and VTS being the best but

    what are the pro's and cons for the different boxes like 1.1, 1.4, 1.5d, vtr and vts to go in my vtr?

    im going to start running 1/4 miles soon and need a quick box

    if you want to drive fast DO NOT GET A 1.1.

    it has the final drive of a good box yes, but a weak diff and a non sports gearset, which is no good! the rumours theyre good should stop!

    hunt for an s1 rallye/1.4xsi for sprints, you will loose top end though

    ok cool, so im looking at the pug boxes then. are they better than VTS for sprints?

    all pug cit, sport boxes (vts/gti etc..) use the same gearset.

    its just the final drive that differs. this effects the way the gearbox drives and the in gear acceleration.

    the vts/gti box is good.... just not imo as good as the rallye or xsi boxes

    if you go on ssc. in engines faq.. it has the thread what gearbox for me irc..

    look in there for exact specs.

    if you cant get a whole box, pm me if you want a 1.4xsi final drive.

    im lost mate lol, no nothing technical bout gearboxes lol, would prefer to get a whole box as i will be fitting myself.

    lol dont worry. some people cant find xsi boxes.

    just vts ones, if theyre getting rebuilt they sometimes want the final drive to make it an xsi box

    xs is different irc.

    xsi i think is the same as the ax Gti not 100% sure though

    all MA boxes fit.

    i cant confirm if the axgti box is the same as a 106xsi though.

    how would a saxo 1.4 box do in a vtr?

    also do 1.1 boxes really give quicker acceleration?

    as i said in first post stay well away from 1.1 boxes imo!!

    1.4box will give marginal increase.

    Whats the final drive on a 1.1 one. Bet you could get a cheap 1.1 box get the final drive and chuck it in your box when its getting rebuilt..

    I have an ax gt box in my vts closer ratios in 1st,2nd and third then about the same 4th and 5th think its the same as a rallye

    Snap it up if its a gt box its very quick in 1,2,3.
