Turbo

was speaking to a owner of a renault 5 turbo to day and we got discussing turbos.

He said a turbo of a renault 5 turbo will fit a VTS with a custom manifold, this true ?
  2. #2
aye its true, but there is much better and reliable ones out there that will fit aswell
  3. #3
if its a custom manifold a turbo from an evo/scooby/buggatti veyron will fit thats the idea in it being custom
  4. #4
spose so really, got a reno 5 turbo on ebay at the moment for under 50 quid at the moment. just trying to think if i can be arsed to make a custom manifold.

Arnt the turbos of a scooby/evo a differnt style (inline or summin)
  5. #5
a t2 turbo from a r5 is a good turbo to use. i have a t2 turbo-you can see how the manifold was adapted in my progress thread. you will have to weld the cast manifold but have to make sure the turbo sits flat. pretty hard to do yourself and costs allot to go the turbo route!!

lol unfortunately mate its not as easy as custom making a manifold to suit the turbo! you also have to consider what your going to do as far as.... compression, cooling, fueling, etc

then theres increased running costs, insurance, etc

then theres other things which are highly recommended like upgrading brakes, etc its not just as easy and as cheap to bolt on ad off you go!

personally a turbo conversion is something i'd leave to the pro's, even if the turbo sits at the wrong angle, it'll feck up!

just a few things to consider mate

need to consider how reliable it is going to be aswel and is it really worth it?
not just happy camming it and porting and polishing? should see 110bhp

ALready got drilled and grooved disks allround with mintex pads. suspensions is done, strut bar, VTS engine on its way, cams out trying to decide what to do with the cams atm aswell just summin up if its worth getting a turbo fitted whilst ive got the engine out.

do you have £3000 minimum to spend? if so do it! if not, don't even consider it!
  12. #12
your gonna need something better than just drilled and grooved brakes mate. more like a big brake upgrade. pointless going faster if you cant stop it

its allot of hard work to get right. mine isnt running rite beacause the fuelling and cooling needs sortin - something for the pros. doesnt make any difference wether the engines outta the car coz it doesnt need removing anyway. its allot of work, if you got the money and the patience then go for it, if not then i wouldnt bother

Got £5000 left out my budget to spend 6500 including credit cards .
I was just wandering how much the price range would vary

Cat cams 708's the best to suit a VTS turbo ?

scouting around for a big brake upgrade aswell at the moment just trying to decide if its worth keeping the standard VTR alloys or getting bigger wheel for bigger brakes
  16. #16
bigger breaks are a deffo imo!

ranges between £3000- £5000 for a Turbo conversion, but can easily be more depending on how lairy you want to get!

the gti6 brakes should be good enough so you will need 15s to fit them, if you have that much to spend then try sending it to the pros like carworx to get a conversion done, also if you do turbo it-there is an mf2 in the sale section that it goin cheap, i have few parts aswell that could interest you!!

I hate to argue but you may wish to look at the flow map for this turbo. Out of all the TU engines its the 1.1 8V that is closes to the spec of this turbo. Even the basic 1.4 8V will push it past what its running on the R5GTT.

That is utter junk, you really do not want to waste your money on that. Everything they say is not true! I don’ know where to start with what’s wrong. He is just ripping people off!

im not sure what your trying to say, but if its about the turbo choice then:its a t2 turbo, james_vts ran a t2 on his vts and im pretty sure simo runs a t2 on his so if they use it then it cant be that bad!!
  52. #52
he means the kit and everything wrote is bollox basically.
  53. #53
i started with a T2 on my vtr ax but it is a bit small i thought the T25 i upgraded to was a better match for the engine but i got board of that aswell lol
