I am about to purchase a tailgate on ebay to make a mould of. Will it matter if I use a Mk1 tailgate as personally I can't tell the difference bar a roof spoiler that we wouldnt mould anyway?
What version carbon tailgate?
-
#1
-
#2afaik they are the same, would you be making a standard one? and a "smoothed one" ??
-
#3initially only a standard one. Its a big investment to get a decent mould made up and we already have a 205 bonnet mould being made and a saxo bonnet being delivered to make a mould from also.
I take it a smoothed one would be minus the numberplate recess? -
#4I'd be intrested in a boot.. but i would want a numberplate recess, as for the bonnets, how are you going to go about them?
Are you having it like a smoothed dimma like mine is now? or are you having it so it's a standard replacement were the grill will slot in?.. I personally think you would sell more if the grill looked like a dimma.. the standard grill dosent look right on carbon
-
#5I would definatly be interested in a carbon bonnet in either standard or dimma style.
-
#6how much will they both be going foe kam? would be intrested in both at some point. ummm, carbon.
-
#7its a boot not bonnet, are you removing the holes for the rear badges
-
#8Would be interested in a boot and mk1 bonnet at some point.
-
#9I would be VERY interested
please pm me estimated prices on both the carbon bonnet for MK2 and a carbon boot.
The difference between the MK1 and the MK2 is that the MK1 has holes in the top of it where the spoiler is. If I was buying a boot I wouldn't want the holes
scott -
#10i didnt manage to find a tailgate today kam... didnt find alot actually, would be intersted in this
-
#11Good stuff, i'm defo getting the boot! Would be good to have the recess for the numberplate too..
-
#12Yeah ditto that,Quote:Good stuff, i'm defo getting the boot! Would be good to have the recess for the numberplate too..

How would it hinge and would it still have all of the central locking, boot light and locks etc on it, or would it come with all the holes and threads etc so that we can attach our own to it?
thanks scott -
#13Hopefull will come with all necessary holes etc and we just put ours on.. Thats would be good..
I'm not fussed about the locking aspect, there are other ways around that.. Just need the numberplate lights..
-
#14as in pins? I would get pins but they usually look shit and covered in rust...
-
#15Id be interested long term, as ill have to save etc, in a bad boy carbon bonnet with smoothed dimma grille, like clouds basically
. And a carbon bonnet with the recess but no badges. Just me two pence
-
#17Yeah but you can get "aluminium" ones that dont rust, eh James.
-
#18please dont make these
i want to be the only person with one lol. Be easier imo to do it without recess and its piss easy to wire in a light.
-
#20Pins look ghey imo.
Would deff nab a boot of ya!
I think mk1 and mk2 tailgates are the same yes, as some people have swapped them over so that they can have the mk1 spoiler
-
#21tailgates are the same, just some came with the holes for spoilers. Kam whats the chance of a roof skin being made up?
-
#22I want to fill me sunroof with carbon too..
-
#23Oh dear, Barclays are going to order a hit on me at the end of this year, bank balance could take a pounding. Carbon roof skin would be nice as well
-
#24Carbon VT kit scott?
-
#25a mk2 would be better. it wont need holes filling from where the gay mk1 spoiler attaches.
kam are you doing moulds for other stuff..
i know on the rallye reg theres some demand for stuff..
pm me if you want to talk about it -
#26Kam, please put me down for a Boot.
Id be very interested
I imagin youd make more money from starting with just the boot as like mentioned the boot will be universal to both Phase1 and Phase2 owners.
As for the number plate recess . . . I think maybe the factory look keeping the number plate recess would be better imo.
Any idea what kind of retail price you looking at? -
#27its actually easyer to make a smoothed boot in carbon than a std one.Quote:Kam, please put me down for a Boot.

#28Might be cheaper but I personally reckon the regular one would be more desireable.
-
#30id be interested in the carbon bonnet possibly the boot

#31Nothing wrong with taking pride in your car, if you want to drive a car that looks like shit then thats your issue. If we want to drive a car what looks half decent then thats our issue and nothing to do with you.
-
#32driving on track cars get scratched gravel hit them etc..Quote:Nothing wrong with taking pride in your car, if you want to drive a car that looks like shit then thats your issue. If we want to drive a car what looks half decent then thats our issue and nothing to do with you.
im more worried about driving it thatn chipping my precious paint work
-
#33ryANAL is your car running?
-
#34Don't get me wrong.. i can understand why people dont really care about there cars paintwork etc but most people on here use there cars as daily drives.. I just so happen to care about my possesions and tend to look after them because i know when i come to sell i arn't going to knock off 1grand of the price because the paint needs a full re-spray. Dosent take allot of time and effort to keep on top of it.
Saying that i dont claim my car to be a 'track slag'.. i couldent ever commit myself to do it with a car i like so much. Hence why i'll be getting another car to do track days in.. even then i'll look after it without denting my pocket lol -
#36Wow!! We were not expecting quite this response lmao!
What does the dimma one look like? The plan was to either do a direct copy of the standard bonnet or one without that little notch where the badge sits.Quote:I'd be intrested in a boot.. but i would want a numberplate recess, as for the bonnets, how are you going to go about them?

There wont be any unnecessary holesQuote:its a boot not bonnet, are you removing the holes for the rear badges
if people want to drill holes for badges they can though
Until we have the donor panels for the moulds in our hands we can't give any accurate estimates just yet as we need to measure up how much carbon we would use. Will not be long thoughQuote:I would be VERY interested

thanks for looking!Quote:i didnt manage to find a tailgate today kam... didnt find alot actually, would be intersted in this
The items we would be making will not have a replica internal frame as we are initially focusing on track cars and we want to have the lightest panels on the market. We certainly will be reenforcing the top to allow hinges but im not sure a standard lock will be able to be fitted. We will look at what kind of locking bonnet pins can be used though so road/track cars are secureQuote:Yeah ditto that,

Holes for lights will need to be drilled after the panel has been made but we may do that on request.
A show type skin like what pro-comp used to do or a panel to just blank off the sunroof?? -

my points are not about taking pride in your car atall, or aimed personally at you.
more at the growing trend of former bodykit warriors who all slated track day people, now think that by removing 17s, and your interior suddenly makes you a track slag when youve never even driven a track day in your life lol -
#38for the real hardcore trackday people we will be offering gel coated carbon panels, these do not show the weave and can be easily painted and as a bonus are cheaper to make - therefore buy
-
#40Kam,

Thats my carbon bonnet.. by dimma i mean the grill is already there like that. Obviousley don't badboy the ones you make
it's a love hate thing in the saxo community.
-
#41Incase clouds image is too dull, heres a brighter one.

I think thats what you mean when u say "without the notch for the badge"
