What would be the advantage of using a vts box on my 1.4, would there be noticeable better acceleration?
advantage of vts box on 1.4

#2If you tell me what the rev limiter on the 1.4 is and what diameter your tyres are ill work out the speeds in each gear for both boxes for you! There should be a slight increase in acceleration... not sure how noticeable it would be though
-
#3I'm giving it a good guess that the limiter is 6250 like the 1.1's and VTR's.

#41.4box @6250rpm 56cm diameter tyres (guess)
1st 29.9mph
2nd 55.8mph
3rd 85.3mph
4th 106.1mph
5th 142.0mph
VTS box @ 6250rpm 56cm diameter tyres (guess)
1st 30.0mph
2nd 53.4mph
3rd 76.5mph
4th 99.1mph
5th 122.5mph
It should accelerate a bit harder… not by loads though don’t know how noticeable it would be… will pull harder most noticeably in 3rd and 5th thought it wont be as good for cruising on the motorway – shouldn’t be too bad though -
#5Whats that compared with a 1.1 box? Is the 1.1 shorter than the 1.4? I think it was a bit. Similra to a VTR apart from final drive.

#61.1box @ 6250rpm (56cm diameter tyres)
1st 28.1mph
2nd 53.1mph
3rd 75.3mph
4th 93.6mph
5th 125.2mph
Slightly shorter ratios in 1st and 2nd for the 1.1 but a bigger final drive- 4.268 for the 1.1 and 3.765 for the 1.4 -
#7so it better to have a 1.4 gearbox then??
-
#10Not necessarily depends what your after economy then the 1.4 box would be better.
For performance the VTS
Imagine your in 5th gear with your foot to the floor in the 1.4 box and say youve only have the power get about 115-120mph and its geared to do 140 where as if you have a VTS box thats geared to do about 122ish you will get there quicker and might even hit the limiter in 5th
The more you gear the engine speed down - the more torque you get to the wheels and the quicker you will get through the gears -
#12can allways use different 5th gears if you want thoughQuote:Not necessarily depends what your after economy then the 1.4 box would be better.

#13Are the 1.4 box's as strong as the VTR and/or VTS box's?
-
#15Thats ok then, with keeping the 1.4 engine std ish power it should be ok anyway as is designed to last with that power/torque..
-
#19Ooo, how much would you want for the 1.4 box??
-
#21Fuk me, all in working order etc??
If you still have it at the end of august after the nurburgring trip i will probs have it off you! -
#22ive never fitted it to my car, but it goes into gear and all the shafts turn accordingly...
i got it as it was off an xsi, only to find later the box code was infact a 1.4
i wasnt to fussed tbh as it was only a spare.. although kinda need to clear out all my spares so the car can actually go in the garage -
#23Ok, can i put a shorter final drive on one of those?
and like i said, after the ring trip i will have it.. but dont hold it back if you need to get rid..
-
#24the 1.4 doesnt use the sports ratios that the vts/gti/xsi/rallye boxes use, so putting a different final drive on would have effects i dont know of lol!Quote:Ok, can i put a shorter final drive on one of those?

theres no rush atm.. as i need to clear my damaged s1 box, cut up rear bumper, spare exhausts, spare bottom end, red rallye carpet etc... aswell LOL -
#25lol, true.. would probs fuck up the gearing a treat!!
Will probs have it mate.. let you know after the ring trip..
you have alot of stuff then!! lol
