What would you do ? Bodywork question

  1. #1
When i got my VT kit fitted, theres a few things that arent perfect... both door panels dont lie perfect against car, few mil away, and front drivers arch doesnt meet perfect either, rest seems ok tho....

i have had to take few panels off and replace clips and rebond/glue whatever the panels back on.

    Paint

    Original Colour was Posi Blue...

Some stone chips and stuff, are showing as posi blue, also around rear tow eye, it's chipped and posi blue coming through.... correct me if i'm wrong but shouldnt they have sanded that off and primered it before spraying new colour?

the colour match isnt that bad, almost perfect infact.

The side strip/trim, has started to peel, they adv this would happen but it's only been like 7 months since it was sprayed, plus they forgot to spray this at first, then when i asked them to do it again, it looked like they just put no effort in, all the edges were really rough n faded paint and stuff.

    Main question....

Do i get the kit fully refitted... bearing in mind the holes and stuff have already been drilled, so position of the panels wont change....???

Do i get the kit fully resprayed by somewhere that will sand and primer.

or do i just get the imperfections sprayed over ? - which will prob be the full side trims and where the door meets the arch, the paint on the door has been stripped off by the arch. (when opening door).

just go back to the place and ask them to do a proper job this time or you will get trading standards, they should of sanded it right back tbh, sounds like it has not been prepped very well at all, what i would do is take it to someone who has a good reputation and tell them to do a full respray on the bottom half

you can actually get clear film to go over the painted parts to protect if for longer

you dont have to prime no you can just flat the exsisting colour down and paint over as long as its in mint cond etc

and sounds like the rub strips they have just probly had enough paint left so there "dry" thats what makes them look faded etc as there isnt as much paint as on the rest of the door panel

id get it re done or take it back mate if its as bad as you say?

what was the bodyshop like to deal with? if they were ok they should just re do the bits that were there fault for you ie rub strips etc,but fair enough you may have to pay for the other bits caused by stone chips etc etc

i got it done through the mechanic i use, as he said the bodyshop only do trade work, so he will get them to do it cheap. when i told him he said we told you the rub strip's would peel. looks like i'm going to have to go to a different bodyshop.

well they havent prepped them right, they should no better, did they use a plastic primer on them or do you not know

yep cant have prepped em right they are a ball ache so probs cunt be arsed

they need scotching filler primer flatting etc etc a lot of work/time etc

they didnt prime them by the looks of it! just sprayed straight on, the edges are rough and faded and came off when i washed it.

that clear film i would advoid as it looks awful on cars, you dont get the same effect of the paint shinning as you do with parts that arent covered
