Project 'Sort the damn car!'

  1. #1
    Hi all...
Basically, i'm finally looking at doing something with my car.
The Wing, Sideskirt, Bumper and Grille all need spraying up, and i'm pretty confident that i could do them myself, with my step grandads spray gear and a good colour match of paint...

The Plan is to do them, and then later on perhaps get a body shop to blend in the other small bits that could do with doing, ie small bit of rust on the roof and repair work around the drivers lock, and de-lock the passenger door etc...

While i'm doing it, i was thinking of tidying under the bonnet...
Good jetwash, and metal bits coming out and being sprayed in satin black, including rocker cover (Will do my spare first then just swap!), and just a general tidy up...

When i do the bumper, I was thinking about colour coding it too...

Will Hopefully have my new rear shocks, Checkstrap, Gear knob and maybe enough cash left over to perhaps buy 2 new rear wheel bearings (So i can fit my new drums), and a single front 1 so i can get them all done at once, aswell as probably painting the calipers and drums up, and if i'm super super lucky, some 60mm Springs on the front so i can get it even (I think it looks high on the front?)

There's a lot i want to do, aswell as tax the bugger, so will see, but i'm hoping to get a lot done in a week...
Might try booking a week off work for just after pay day

Basically, are there any other suggestions that i could use to work on while i'm doing the lot, I want to tidy it up nicely, or atleast a lot nicer than it is now...
Think i've finally got the doors to stop rubbing, so it might be an option to spray the bits that were rubbing back up straight...

The Plan, although not ideal, would be to take all the bits off the car and prep and spray them off the car (Something smaller first before hand so i know the paint matches and that i'm capable!), so i would need to know about everything i'm going to need before hand, as i'll have no car!

Also, Are there any recommended places local to me for getting good paint matches up (Warminster, Wiltshire BA12)...
Technique tips wouldn't go a miss too

If i can do a good job of the spray work, the Bodykit will be off and re-sprayed to colour code it all, Maybe a new Drivers door later on, to remove about 4 Parking Dings, and the front bit where some idiot decided to try and lever my dented wing out with a screwdriver, denting the door slightly!

Anyway, I'm babbling now, so i'll leave the replies to you guys.
    Much appreciate Tips etc...
    Rep up for grabs

Wow, this is the longest post i've ever made!
    Cheers Guys

Oh yeah, For The Bumper, Would i use normal grey primer, the same as for the wing, and for the little plastics bits and the arch?

And what Primer and Paint / Laquer should I use on the wheels?
Is normal car paint sufficient, or do i need something better?
    Cheers
