What is this pipe for...

    Hello to all.

My name is Vitor, and I'm from Portugal... I have a MK1 Saxo 1.1i SX with Bosch ECU. I'm a student of Automotive Engineering, but there are many thing that I don’t know what they are for. Like the pipe in the image. I'm asking what's the result of replacing that pipe by a straight one.

its a venturi pipe but god knows why
the only reason i can think of is when measuring flow rates, so perhaps is monitors the flow of air so that the correct fuelling can be achieved... but its only a guess man

Does he mean the induction pipe?

Well, there is nothing connected to the "venturi", so, I think it is to accelerate the admission air and reduce a little bit of noise.

replace it with a straight one and see what happens.lol
norm if i find sumfin like that i jus take it off and have a look inside etc

Good idea, but in the next months I can’t do it, because I’m investigating the fuel consumption of my 1.1, and I don’t know if that will interfere with that.

(please if I write a mistake, tell me!!!)

Think the primary reason there fitted is for refinement. They considerably reduce induction sound. If you rip it off the car still runs fine. Just sounds like a wet fart.
