Gearbox noise

  1. #1
recently my gear box has started making a crunching/slipping noise when i set off in first and reverse. it seems to be when the car has a heavier load than normal, such as up a hill

    any ideas?

Are you sure it's your gearbox and not the clutch?

Does it make a loud whinning noise when you go in reverse? Your diff could be on its way out... If you want the clutch checked, go to MrClutch, they will check it for free.

when i reverse its more of a kocking/clunking noise until i get going, but it does wine slightly.

how do i check if the diff has gone?
can i check and see if the clutch has gone myself?

You can't check the clutch without taking the gearbox off, and you can't check the diff without taking off the gearbox AND opening the gearbox up!

MrClutch, MrCLutch, MrClutch! They will look at your clutch for free!!!

You could cycle that distance you big girl's blouse.

The only reason I mention them is because they offer a free check over of your clutch. If it's all tip top, then it will help you investigate matters...

The only other choice is to take it to a garage I suppose.
