ProComp Scoops back in production!!!

    Right Snewham posted in the Interior/Styling section that a company on eGay where producing Carbon Fibre items one of which just happens to be this

    The company is called Streamline Carbon and Im sure some of their items have been mentioned on here before, there are quie a few items now so have a look through their store and see what you think. I admit, I know nothing about quality or types of CF so it would be nice if people in the know could have a look and see what they think. With trends more in the saxo world and other french tuning scenes CF is gone be big what with more and more track based cars looking to shead as much weight as they can.

    As for the Scoop, this is just a scoop with no filter, no tubing but is made from the ProComp mould.

    I asume you could use your filter and filter back tubing from a Raceland or Green scoop to complete the item. Not cheap but Im sure people would be interested in seeing this item back in production

    Theres been quite a few talks about streamline carbon, fair enough there molds are from the same as ProComp, but not sure if people will be willing to spend £300 without filters or pipes and still not know the quality of this item, i mean for all we know it could be so much better yes but also so much worse, i agree we do need someone 'in the know' to shed some light on this for us, but still without filters or pipes £300 abit pricey! im sure there going to be using ProComp as a selling advatage as procomp is no longer they have there moulds and will be using that to bump up the price abit!

    saw this on the ssc, they are quite an expensive bit of kit considering you dont get any filter or other parts to connect it to the throttle body, but they do look class. not sure whether they will be that big now considering the cheaper alternatives people have now of the kamracing scoop, and the bmc etc.

    they look amazing
    but theres some Saxos that are worth less than that filter.

    I know they are super expensive but generally and I reckon Kam-racing will back this up, pretty much anything is expensive in CF if its any good

    If you are seriously into your tuning and I mean by which Im talking about stripped interiors, highly tuned engine specs non TC/SC/TB then items like this and others in CF are gona appeal to you.

    What was the quality of the filter like in the ProComp when you could buy new back in the day? and what would it have set you back then?

    its certainly expensive when you make a high margin on the product which you can do on such an exclusive item.

    If you do Col, it might be worth asking would they consider a Group buy discount.

    If you asked would there be say a 10% per item if we could secure say around 5 orders at anyone given time and see what they say, as Im sure there are people on here that WILL pay that kinda money for an item like that regardless of what you do or dont get with it.

    What you got to lose by asking.

    Kam-Racing - Whats your views on internals for an item like that? would a RaceLand or Green Filter with pipe and Hose fit inside that?

    Probally abit difficult to work out just from a picture.

    Also, what would be the score with you buying one and having a mould made to produce items along side your upcoming CF bonnets and boots, do you imagin there are copy right issues with doing that?

    taking a copy of a product and making it, well yes there would be severe copyright issues with that. It would ahve to be changed from the original design and there is a cerain amount that needs to be changed.

    No need for other tubing on the vts, the flexi tube fits perfectly.

    Still well worth the money imo, definetly one of the best things i ever bought for the car

    £300 isnt really justified on those... no real benefit and if there is it'll insignificantly small.

    Yeah thats true and £300 isnt exaclty a small amount of money, well tis not for me, and like mentioned £300 for this to have a small improovement theres otehrways to spend £300 and get better improovement, is it possible to have one of these and a BMC one togeather?

    no wouldnt fit if you put the bmc on top of the scoop.

    Yes you can buy a cam for 300 quid, no point in buying a cam on its own though, waht about the rest of the money thats needed to get it to work properly.

    I bought the procomp as i dont good things by half when im doing things i wanted the best (in theory) regardless of however small a margin it may have over other products.

    Would i buy a green/simota with repalcement element: Absolutely. However having experienced both i would still buy the procomp purely for the noise over the green/simota

    I'd love a ProComp! I would pay 300 if you get the filter and other stuff too, not just the housing. It looks ace but imcomplete

    Dont get me wrong Scott, was just putting it into perspective.

    could source a nice set of 15 Super Leggys probably for around 300 smackers.

    The Procomp kits do look immense though.

    Is there much noise difference between this and say, a BMC?

    looking at the design of the procomp the noise is guaranteed as its a large enclosed space so the induction roar should reverberate inside. Whether this equates to more power is another mater lol
    The BMC is loud too - certainly in the polo gti we fitted it to.

    i still think £300 for a air filter housing is a load of bollocks CFRP is expensive no doubting that but even so...

    still though you cant deny the quality of the finished product.

    I honestly cant see how it would make an improvement over an equivalent crappy plastic housing tbh.

    I did some gayass calculations yonks ago and at some averagey rpm the speed of the air through the piping (assuming standard size) was around 33mph... love see how much heat is picked up in the 0.06secs that the air is actually in the intake.

    plastic is a very poor conductor of heat anyway otherwise your kitchen utensils would be lethal.

    thats my point Kamster.

    No idea what normal plastics would be used in bog standard air filter housing... possibly polyurethane maybe PVC or Polyester... i aint got a clue!

    Take polyurethane... thermal conductivity of 0.02W/mK
    Take PVC... thermal conductivity of 0.019W/mK

    god knows what CFRP is but it can be much lower than that...

    Well i mean from a performance perspective, and im sure kam can answer this which one is better purley for the performance aspect as i eman they both look sweet ocne in the car yes certianly and i mena the procomp probs looks abit ncier but i would prefer to spend half that for a full kit if its going to give me the same 'umph' if thats the right term?
