Slicks

I have searched almost all morning for a pair of 15 inch slicks (for 1/4 mile runs) and I can't find a decent supllier. Anyone know of anywhere they can recommend?

I don't want to spend an absolute fortune. The ones I have found have all been iro 200-220 each!

Cheers for that Toad, no slicks though!

I was considering the Yoko 048's. Didn't realise Kumho did track tyres!!!

    What size will you need?

You will find that most of the slicks or road legal slicks will be above 50 profile

Semi slicks will do just fine... Totally different compound to the likes of Proxes T1R's... You'd get a few thousand miles out of them on the road.

let me know what makes and details of the tyres and i will get u a quote, a friend of mine owns a tyre warehouse i have an account with, been looking at setting up a webiste for years selling tyres, but not had the time to do it, will be looking at getting it set up over the next few weeks though. Give me a PM

    I rate Yoko 048R highly...

I have previously run with 195/50r15s on and they are fine.

I know that the sizes aer fairly limited and this is the nearest I would get to the recommended 195/45 profile

Semi slicks I'm sure would be fine but I wanted to squeeze every last millisecond out of my times! Add that to the fact that the wheels and tyres will only be used while there and then back on road tyres for the journey

before you consider full slicks.. what suspension and spring rates are you running?
  10. #10
Why are you dragging a Saxo anyway? That's defo not what they are good at doing...

Bends = Friends! ...In a Saxo.

Bilstein AX Group N units and GMC springs

Everything is poly bushed as well. In the process of getting new non abs driveshafts for a local company to look at strengthening

    Cool cool.

It's just one of those things that I can't quite get my head around. What's the point of taking a car like a Saxo / 106 to a drag strip. I suppose it would be interesting to see what time it would make, but that's that really. It just seems a bit pointless to me, as that's the weakest part of the car, i.e., straight line speed...

The last time I went to York Raceway (my first time dragging) I ran a few 15.2s on standard cams and budget tyres. I just want to get under the magic 15.0 before cams go back in!

I have every intention of tracking my car as much as I can when it's ready to do so, but not until then

That seems pretty quick for a standard set up!

Was the car quite lightweight at the time? I'm guessing the standard time would be just under 16 seconds?

It was relieved of all the rear interior parts, door cards and roof lining but still had carpet and a pair of front seats. Not sure about standard times,

Was also running Speedline 205 GTi alloys which are pretty light in themselves

Excuse my ignorance, but how would a baffled sump improve things?
  22. #22
I reckon it will be because of the amount of extra grip whilst conering.

I understand now! If the oils hot and "sloshes" to one side of the lump it will leave one side high and dry??? Yes?
  24. #24
If you put bigger baffles in, it stops the oil all moving to one side. Problems can occur when cornering hard with slicks, as you're pulling greater "G"s so to speak...
  25. #25
I get it now! I will only be using slicks on the drag strip as I said I have another set of wheels for the track which will have something along the lines of Toyo T1Rs or similar. I don't want to go all out on track tryes as I will prob drive to the track on the wheels I'll be using
  26. #26
for the drag strip those slicks are rubbish. You need super soft ones otherwise they will never get enough heat in to give grip
  27. #27
sorry my bad i didnt read that it would be for drag running only

    tut tut

The good news is if you can get some slicks there is a valid reason for wheelspinning like mad before your run to get heat into them
