Raised Bonnet

  1. #1
At a recent SE meet a member on here VTR170 I think or something like that had a S conversion with Throttle bodies and few other things running 170bhp, and what really made the car stand out for me was the raised bonnet.

Now I know how he raised the rear level, he basically used spacers and different bolts etc, but the problem I forsaw and would like to know is how you overcome the issue with the bonnet catch because by altering the angle of the bonnet while open and shut the catch would need adjusting.

Now I know this isnt a Ford site but this is the only pic I could find on the quick. So sorry in advance

Can you see the bonnet sits at a slight different angle allowing more air to enter at the back allowing better cooling and airflow into the engine bay.

Apart from the lad I meet at the last SE meet Im not sure anybody on here has done this, am I right? and does anybody know anybody on SSC that has done this?

    Thanx guys

all i know is its called bonnet jacking mate

its not really done for airflow tbh as air will flow over the bonnet up the windscreen and so on, might suck a bit of air in but id say people are doing it more for looks

tbh i think it looks gay

think you just use spacers between the hinge and the chassis

Iv gotta admit im really not a fan, but I think it looks pretty good when you have the tools under the hood to show for it

the guy in this thread has done it aswell. i think it looks ok and if it reduces the temp in the engine then its a good mod

it's mainly not to get more air into the engine bay but to expel used and hot air from the engine bay and on other cars it apparently has an effect on performance.

this guy in this thread wanted a group buy on these if you were interested

Yes sorry I did mean to let the warm air out rather than to let it in

I spoke to VTR130 - hes got TB's under there so I see the point, I was just wondering. Besides the others are Phase1s which changes things cos mine and VTR130's are Phase2's.

Just going back to VTR130 mentioned he was having trouble with his catch amounst other things, but I couldnt quite make out whether it was caused by the altered bonnet angle or not as most of use where slightly distracted by the TB's

get some bonnet pins instead then

Only problem with pins are, Id be very worried kids would either nick the pins or some muppet would open my bonnet whenever they like.

Bonnet raising is for running cooler engine bay temps. and increasing performance over a longer period of time. Looks cool too

I think it looks good on track slags!!!

the called bonnet blocks, their made out of alluminium and there 'supposed' let hot air out the top, my mate has the same thing on his rs turbo and u can see the heat come out when your driving round town and it gets hot.

tbh its pointless unless your running really high powered cars like track cars...

i did it to mine while i was bored at a m8s garage one night. Put 3 washers between the bonnet and the lifting arm's on the back bolts. I quite liked it at first but chnaged back to the standard look the other day as people kept asking if i had crashed lol. Worth doing if wanting to squeeze out as much performance as possible lol

yeh its to get most of the heat out!! It really has made lots of difference on my car especially at night. The only reason my bonnet doesn't close is beacause ive fucked my slam panel
