What cams would you recommend getting for my 01 Saxo Vts, I want them mainly for straight lines but might do a few trackdays.I was going to go with Cat cam 708's and a Daztek ecu. What do you think. Thanks
What cams and ecu

#2Iv heard good things about the 708's, the thing to remember is what your going to be using the car for. If its a daily driver then id get 708's
-
#3708s generally produce 155-157bhp with breathing mods.
just get your normal ecu remapped if you dont intend on doing more than cams. -
#4its ok saying that Ry, but there are next to no places about anymore that will re-map an standard ECU!
-
#5I have done a few searches and read through a few pages already looking for some cheap-ish mods (compared to turbo and the likes) to get the VTS going a bit better.
Bearing in mind i havnt a clue, here goes...
Ive seen these 708's mentioned a lot and was wondering if there is anything else that needs to be done to the car along with these? Maybe re-map and then does this mean new ecu??
What are the pros and cons of this type of mod? ie very noisy, dodgy idle, MOT, fuel consumption...
...and i have an 03 VTS already with a de-cat, new centre section and backbox and an enclosed filter.
Finally, cost and also reccomendations on where to get this kind of work carried out? Ideally South Wales areaor close.
Thanks. -
#6Sorry guys, above post was meant to be a new thread...ignore and will re-post!!
-
#10you dont want a dastek. remap standard or standolone but that a lot more money
-
#11Its very hard to find a place in Ireland that can remap my ecu so I might need to take a trip to the Uk.Because I have a company car, this is going to be my weekend car so I want to try and get some big bhp out of it while keeping it n/a.
-
#12big bhp? what do you intend on doing? after cams? bodies? boost? as you need to choose your cam profile now for what you intend on doing later
-
#13oli its called streeracers

edit. wrong thread
-
#14I dont know what I wana do yet.Sorry what I mean by big bhp would be the 170-180bhp area which is big for Ireland. It would brobably be the quickest and biggest bhp in Irealnd as Vts's are very rare over here. For now I just wana sort out the cams and then I might go with throttle bodies
-
#15to hit 180 you will need bigger cam profiles really than 708s.Quote:I dont know what I wana do yet.Sorry what I mean by big bhp would be the 170-180bhp area which is big for Ireland. It would brobably be the quickest and biggest bhp in Irealnd as Vts's are very rare over here. For now I just wana sort out the cams and then I might go with throttle bodies
708s are 170ish on bodies.
if you plan on going bodies, get a standalone now rather than getting your standard ecu mapped, ok it will cost fuck loads more atm, but will be ALOT cheaper in the long run -
#16Ok so what cams would you recommend.I will dont plan on doin tb's for a few months but hope to sort out cams in the next ferw weeks.Quote:to hit 180 you will need bigger cam profiles really than 708s.

#17i personally would say stick with 708s and just not be so much about pub bragging rights.Quote:Ok so what cams would you recommend.I will dont plan on doin tb's for a few months but hope to sort out cams in the next ferw weeks.
if you go much wilder, you need forged pistons/rebated pistons, to stop the valves hitting the pistons from the lift of a wilder cam. Also if peak power is pushed up high you will need solid lifters so you can actually rev the engine that high without it going bang.
as i said get a stand alone like kms now, its easyer to get a map tweaked for bodies in the long run, as a standard ecu you cannot run bodies on -
#20Yeah I get you now.Good point, id just like to have it quicker than most others and quicker then type-r Integra's which is defo possible with just cams and a remap so thanks again

#21spend the extra money on a quaife ATB for your box, it will do more than an extra 10bhp
-
#23an atb diff is a differential which will help you corner fast basically
550 + fitting to gearbox -
#24Oh a diff yeah yeah I know what that is I just didnt know the make.I dunno if il bother. It seems to put down the power ok and corners nicely and as I said I mainly just want the car for straight line purposes
-
#25go boost then if you want a gaylining carQuote:Oh a diff yeah yeah I know what that is I just didnt know the make.I dunno if il bother. It seems to put down the power ok and corners nicely and as I said I mainly just want the car for straight line purposes

and if you increase the power it wont corener as 'nicely' -
#26Nah I thought bout it but I dont think boost is worth it as I do wana keep it an every day car.I wouldnt mind trying a few vtrack days and il look into a diff if you say they are worth it.Thanks
-
#27boost is perfectly fine for a daily driver..Quote:Nah I thought bout it but I dont think boost is worth it as I do wana keep it an every day car.I wouldnt mind trying a few vtrack days and il look into a diff if you say they are worth it.Thanks
there are many supercharged engines i know running 220+ bhp at the fly that are daily drivers.
