Fitting an Air Filter

  1. #1
I've been reading the forums and googling etc. but cannot find anywhere that shows how to fit a filter.

I have a 1999 Saxo Sx 1.1 and have bought a ripspeed universal mushroom filter (i know they aint great but hey) Problem is im not very car-savy so i was wondering if anyone had a good walkthrough for removing the old 1 and replacing or even better a diagram

    any help is much appreciated

    Thanks in advance

It might be an idea to post pics of your engine bay and the filter you have purchased, as im sure people could talk you through it mate

Treat yourself to a Haynes manual as they come it use time and time again when owning a Saxo Trust me.

It should simply be a case of removing the airbox . . .

making sure to note what pipes go where then fitting the induction kit . . .

. . .with a universal filter you will probally have to get a engine breather like the small filter on the picture above as there might not be anywhere to reconnect it to the new induction kit.

That filter is connected to the rocker cover and allows the engine oil to breath, if pluged it can cause the oil to get sludgy and effect the way the car performs.

I know yours isnt a S but I thought the pictures might have been of some help. Im sure a 1.1 will post a picture of their induction kit fitted.

Yer, funny story behind that, I bought that item SCS or whatever it was rather than the Samco as the Samco stated Phase1 only rather than the SCS didnt state anything at all, I knew there was no difference between the two phases on that item but I went with the SCS item anyway - 6weeks later it turned up and turned out to be a 45' angle rather than a 90' angle because they are designed to be used with Cone filters rather than a Scoop which needs the same 90' as the factory airbox

I had to butcher it to fit a 106S16 induction kit with head shield (which is no longer on the cat) I bought off eBay so its no more anyway

Not being an expert on that engine Im not so sure, but you must be able to remove certain bits to gain access to the throttle body.

Undo the pipes and make a note of where they connect if needs be take some pictures to make it easier or use nail polish (no comments please) to mark which pipe connects to where untill you can get to the point of removing the OE airbox.

Once this is done you should be able to connect the universal neck to the either throttle body or pipework that leads to it then just look for which pipes go into the rocker cover then add a engine or crank case breather than again can be bought from Halfords.

Im sure if you put a request in the picture and video section for 1.1's with induction kits youd get some more helpfull pictures than the ones Ive posted as they where just to show what you can expect to remove.

the airbox is circled in red the best thing to do is remove that but leave on the rest of the piping a filter should fit nicely in the whole + you still have the cold air feed! how i done it on my 106 and was by far the best!
