Quickshift!

  1. #1
Hi all! I have been looking at the B&M short shift gearbox but I just wanted to know, what exactly do they do? I know gear change is quicker but do they increase performance or something? Also what is the best make to buy, I hear alot about B&M, can anyone on here recommend some to me. Also what are they like to fit?

Get one of the old TASM style ones, adjustable and cheaper than the B&M. The name says what it does, makes throw on gearlever shorter so quicker shifts.

The only problem is, if the shift is too short, youll start to knacker synchro baulk rings if you are an aggressive changer.

ive got a TAS B&M one and its worth every penny. the only way they increase performance is with the shorter shift (take less time to change gear becasue the throw is shorter).

this is what they look like

they are really easy to fit.

you will need a torx screwdriver
    10mm socket and racket
    10mm spanner
    12mm spanner
    two cable ties

take the centre console out by unclipping th orginal gear stick gaitor
    undo the torx screw
    take the console out
undo the 4 10mm nuts that hole the orginal gear stick to the car
pull the gear sitck up and undo the 10mm bolt using the 10mm and 12mm spanners
pull the bolt out and take your old gear stick out
do this in reverse to fit the quickshift but make sure you put a cale tie in between the quickshift base and car. this is needed to allow you to re-fit the centre console
put the centre console back into place and cable tie the console to the cable tie thats held in place inbetween the quickshift and car
fit the gear gaitor and off you go

Like mentioned, it does what it says - It shortens the throw between gears there by allowing for a quicker shift time.

I have the B&M item and am very happy with it, there other ones on the market so have a look about and see whats what

Id recommend the B&M as this the third one Ive had now but other people will recommend other types as they are not all the same, but as I havent used anyother I can comment

Do you have to leave the electric window switches lying round like that and cant you put the centre console back and the gaitor back round the gearstick?

No the B&M and all the others is a direct swop for the factory unit and is covered by the normal centre console, Im sure he has just done that to show what the unit looks like.
