Replacing entire Exhaust and CAT

  1. #1
    Hi peeps,

My CAT has developed a hole so needs replacing before my MOT in September . Im looking to replace it with a performance CAT instead of a standard one.

At the moment I still have a standard exhaust system but will be replacing that along with the CAT. Any suggestions on a good system???

    I have a 2001 'Y' Reg VTR.

I have until September so I have plaenty of time to save the money if I have too.

I recently bourght a Cat for mine as it was knackered, I got it for £57 delivered in two days which was bloody good.
    Got it from here http://www.cats-direct-shop.co.uk/ci...-converter.php
, this is if you need a standard Cat. Very good service.

    Thanks for the info.

Ive looked but the only one I can find is:

    CITROEN SAXO 1.6i 8v VTR 10/00- 91103 £51.20 + vat £0.00 + vat

My VTR is a 2001- Will that make any difference?

Below is a Pic of the CAT from the site imreferring too

Is your cat under the car? Im not that clued up on VTR engines lol.

Check Ryans (itsafastworld85) thread on VTR engines and tell us which one you have because the CATS are different.

Pic dont work for me BTW lol

Sorry bout the Pic. Dont work for me either lol. From what I can see the CAT isnt under the car, its more at the front and then the pipe comes out the bottom, bends under the car, and then joins the rest of the system. Its the later VTR so from my understanding its when they put the CAT in the manifold- or sumfing like that.

Ill check out the thread you mentioned and Ill post back here after.

Right OK, I found the thread after a few minutes and I have stage 3 (late 2001)

3 - 2001-2004 Silvertop cover with catalytic convertor in manifold, 3 plug ecu, = 98bhp

If the CATs in the manifold then u'll have to either remove it and change the setup eg cat before the centre section - better in the long run or maybe get a new manifold - costly but really good if your looking for a new system anyways

Not really a VTR specialist as i have my 'S' but think this could be done

Removing the CAT sounds like a hell of a lot of messing around. Think i might just get an uprated manifold with the built in CAT. What would be more beneficial performance wise?

I might contact pug/cit performance and see what they recommend. They seem quite good. My where my mate goes there to have stuff done to his 206 GTI 180.

They might be able to suggest some good systems and setups.

If you have the Cat in the manifold which most Phase2s do, the easiest way is to sourch a standard VTR manifold, you could replace with a performance 4branch but youd be removing the Cat so youd be back to square one again.

www.cituning.ltd.uk to a Milltek 4branch stainless steel manifold with a Sports cat in it, now sports Cats are not cheap and the fact this is a Sports Cat IN a 4branch manifold makes even more expensive . . .

    . . . Ready . . .

    £425

But the fact you should never have to worry about swoppin manifolds over for MoT which you will have to do with a normal 4branch, look at it this way . . .

I paid £300 for my Piper 4-1 and around £200+ for a sports cat for my S now thats £500+ and thats not counting the Janspeed 4-2-1 I bought first that cracked when I caught my system on a speed bump that cost £150+ so its upto you, different people would tell you different things.

That mights not be a bad idea actually. Especially as Im going to be changing my exhaust system shortly after. A 10BHP increase aint too bad either.

And the best bit..... Its still legal

Cant go wrong surely. Thanks for the advise.

If you look at the pic at that link, the right hand ipe has like a bracket on it. Well its where that bracket is attached that I have the hole lol. Was welded back in November but now its gone again Decided to stop messin and just get it done. Get it done properly- and its a great excuse to upgrade lol

One other thing, Does that price include fitting???
  16. #16
Mines a mk1 1.6 and the cat was underneath the car, it wasn't difficult to do it was very easy in fact, that's if your Cat is in the same place as mine though.

Bit of a but did you notice much of a loss in power by having the sports cat on over the just the 4-2-1 manifold? Also would that milltek sports cat manifold fit a furio? I guess it would, im just weighing up my options.
  18. #18
No that price will not include fitting nor delivery so add allow for abit for delivery and depending on where you have it fitted anywhere between £50-£100 depedning on hourly rates.

Also dont forget your need a new exhaust manifold gasket, main dealer under £3 stupid money lol I always go for main dealer gaskets everytime

Sorry, what I meant is I original had a complete standard system then changed to a Janspeed 4-2-1/ Sports Cat/ Cat back Janspeed Mild Steel system. When I caught my centre box a few time hard on speed bumps I found out that Id cracked my Janspeed manifold. Thats when I changed to the Piper 4-1/ Sports Cat/ Straight through centre/ GroupN back box.

So any gains are hard to point towards anyone item beacuse I changed everything apart from the Sports Cat.

Im no expert but Im sure a VTR manifold will fit a Furio but check first, have a look on www.cituning.ltd.uk as they list Furio stuff aswell
