I take it you've had a really good read through the progress thread that i had with mine??
A few things:
VTR and VTS ones are pretty much exactly the same:
Mk1 VTS had the option of ABS and didnt necessarily come as standard- my beam came off a T reg VTS without ABS
Im not 100% certain, but i think the Torsion bars and anti roll bars are the same aswel.
Everything else such as disk size and calipers etc are the same.
Try and get one with handbrake cables and brake lines attached as this will be beneficial if you just want to do a simple swap over.
For me i chose to get new cables (£20handbrake), hoses (I upgraded these to stainless steal goodridge ones although its not necessary for what you're looking for) and brake lines all round (£40 a set), with prices being fairly cheap i decided to take my time and do the lot.
Whilst the beam is off the car id strongly recommend changing the 4 bushes from where the mounting bolts are.
Then make sure that the calipers are in good condition and theres been no leaking brake fluid from anywhere, this is extremely essential.
Disks and pads also need to be changed, prices vary.
The most important bit which could save you alot of money again in the future is to have your bearings etc checked out....I got Josh (jpsaxo) and his dad to look at mine- they check that the pins are in good condition with no wear from knackered bearings.
The above is usually caused by lowering a car or general wear on the Anti Roll bar seal behind the Anti Roll Bar plate. if this seal is damaged and water is able to leak in then it will wash out the grease inside and cause the bearing and pins to grind which would cost you dearly if its not checked (there will be play in the trailing arm)
Aside from that the brake lines that go from the master cylinder at the front of the car are slightly longer for disk brakes than drums, so these will either need extending or new brake lines to match the disks will need to be bought, the choice is yours there
.................................................. ........................................
With the front as yours is a 1.1 you'll have 238mm diameter brake disks, i had these on mine as standard and the brake setup really was poor to be honest. regardless of the engine size still stopping from say 60mph theyre useless.
You have 4 stud hubs anyway with it being a Mk2 so thats a juicy bonus as you wont have to swap them over in order to upgrade.
You could go for VTR or VTS front brakes (247mm- matches rear disks) which are exactly the same or you could go slightly bigger and go for a 266mm off a Peugeot setup. Either way parts can be picked up for these for a reasonable price.
Disk prices are always going to be similar and the pads- definately buy new and then for the calipers it probably wont cost you more than £50.
Any more questions feel free to ask
Good Luck
