re-fitting head... nightmare

  1. #1
Got the head back from QEP yesterday.

up to now... head and throttlebody are fitted.

now comes the problem - The new followers dont fit in the holes! not even the old ones! I've smeered new engine oil in the holes and on the followers.

they seem to be too wide. what has happened? have QEP sent me the wrong head or something?

    cheers guys

    Kev

yeah will give them a ring in the mornin.

the shitter is... i'm booked in to get it re-mapped on thursday and i'm working in wiltshire tuesday and wednesday. the car is in cheshire!

ive just refitted mine, not had any head work done but the followers where a bit of a pain to get in, you just have to put them in on the right angle or the metal on the head grabs them.. hope this helps

yeah i know about the angle. they have to be exactly straight.

I spoke to Matt at QEP today. he said the first thing they do with the head is to clean it. they soak it in a bath of something. he said the concentration they used on my head was a bit strong so it may have left a residue which may have gone hard. he told me to use a brilo pad or something similar to try and clean the residue away!

only thing is... now i'm at work 150miles away from the car! Was hoping to get it finished this weekend. that hasn't happened!

and now I have to go to FCS with it un-mapped!

only a month sice i got the head back!

The problem was the followers were too big!

with a little persuasion the old ones fitted. I measured the old ones against the new and there was a 0.05mm difference. so i sent them back to Newmans and they worked their magic and now they fit. Only took them 4 weeks to do that for me.

I should be pissed off that it took so long but i'm just glad the fit!

Now the re-build continues! should be done thiss weekend. Fingers crossed!

Kev what headwork did you have done at QEP? (sorry if ive missed a progress thread somewhere)

Rebuilding my VTS engine and trying to weight up a few pricings etc so far.

I want 708 Cams in mine with followers due to engines original milage prior to rebuild.

If you could post here or PM me with any details thatll be ace.

    Cheers
