i've bought vtr wheels and was planning on getting them dipped white, that was untill i was quoted £65 a wheel. i was just wondering how much of a job it would be if i was to have a go at spraying them myself? will i just need to rub them down, few coats of primer, few coats of white paint and a few coats of laquor? if anyone can help that would be great. thank you

#2If you become a premium member there's a shit hot guide in the forum

But yes, Rub down, Filler and sand any bad marks in them, primer, sand, primer, paint lacquer
-
#3Its all about being premium if you think that you will be on here lots, do a search and there is a lesser guide floating around, try not to use nitromors.
-
#4They are in mint condition, no marks at all so i can just rub them down and prime spray and laquer them, right?
-
#6piece of piss i rushed mine but still came out good
some progress pics in my progress thread also did a thread in styling section a while back
-
#7they are easy to do really and will you will save allot if attempting yourself. i would buy premium membership to look at the wheel guide there
-
#8Yep, That guide in the premium forum really is top bollocks tbh, But yeah, simply primer, rub down, primer, paint, paint, paint, lacquer, lacquer
Then leave to harden for around a week if possible! better longer lasting results!
-
#9Cheers guys, probably have a go over the weekend. i'll put a thread up when i'm done to show how they came out
-
#10Got the paint earlier. 2 cans of primer, 3 cans of gloss white and 2 cans of laquer. Going to start them on friday. i'll let you know how they come along.
-
#11Has anyone got any pics of any blue vtr/s or furio's with white vtr allys so i can get some idea of what my wheels will look like on my car. thank you

#13i'm not sure why but i can't see the pic above, its just a red x?
-
#14works for me ...
-
#15any chance you could send it in a pm or an email?
-
#16done mate
-
#17cheers buddy, it opens in the pm. looks mint asweell. nice one.
-
#18Piss easy with bit of effort. Id do it and save the money,
-
#19Think you need 50 posts before the pics show up Grant. I like them in white. Nice contrast.
-
#20Started preping them up last night. masked the tyres up and got all the paint sandpaper etc ready. starting to spray tomoro. hopefully it'll go well and they'll be on but next week.
-
#21hope it goes well for you mate - post some pics up as soon as finish them
-
#22yer will do. decided to drop the car another 20mm all round when their on aswell because i tryed the wheels on the car yesterday and it looks a bit high with the 14's on. (bit of a gap between the tyre and the arch)
-
#23yea mate spraying them is well worth doing and its feels much better when its done as u have put the effort in. I found the trick was in using a varying degrees of sandpaper (rough to smooth). once there smooth, metallic primer and sand lightly when dry. pm me if u want me to post the pics of when i done mine!!
-
#24The trick is putting the time into preperation and not spraying them untill they are 100% ready... work your way down to 1200 grit sand paper... and do really thin coats or you'll get run lines in the paint...
This is what mine look like

If you have any difficulties there is a guide in the premium guides section
-
#25Wheels look shit hot, loving the interest in the gunmetal

Going to have a crack at my wheels next week, they definately need to be taken off if the coats and prep is done slowly, lightly and carefully? -
#26sure do red bullet - took me 2 weekends to get mine done
-
#28too far away else i would have. its pretty easy mate, its been covered quite a few times too
-
#29read all the guides but rather do it myself then get a pro to do it to save money
Havnt got the tools to deflate/inflate tyres properly so wouldnt be the best to do it myself but basically looking for someone i can travel to do it for me locally -
#30i didnt take my tyres off and mine were fine
-
#31You don't need to take your tyres off... you can just deflate them and reinflate them...
I have told you i would happily refurb your wheels... but you would have to pay for all the paints and materials etc... and a bit of money my way... you'd need to leave the wheels with me for a week or so... so you'd need a different set of wheels on your car...

#32Wheels are sprayed. Done them yesterday and finished them off today, just got to lacquer them this evening and i'll leave them a week to harden and they'll be on the car then. cheers for all your advice, i'll get some pics up when their on the car and most of you will probably see the finished product in French Car Show, i'll be on the sw-cc stand.

#33Forgot to say, cheers to furio_morgan for his help rubing the wheels down and most importantly driveing me to the chip shop to get food during the spray. haha. cheers buddy
-
#34any pics mate????
-
#35i got a few on my phone so when i get them on the car i'll take some pics of that and i'll post them all up together. give them their first coat of lacquer earlier and they look relly smart. another coat going on in the morning and i'll leave them harden for a week then so they don't chip easily. i'll keep you updated though.
-
#36no problem grant chips are essential when spraying everyone knows that..
cant wait to see them finished and on the car. will be doin mine soon. -
#37Put wheels on last night. they look stunnin. i'll take some pics on the weekend and post them up.
-
#38looking foward to seeing the outcome!
-
#39Here is the finished product, looking sweet as! the pics of the rubed down wheel and primed wheel were phone pics and they were crap quality so you can the wheels started off as standard vtr wheels and here they are now.
What you think?
