What should i do

    Ok so i got an irish saxo VTR, which i think is similar to a UK spec westcoast. It has a 1.4 engine. I was looking to get an imported UK spec VTR cos there are plenty of them over here, but the one i got was really cheap and in immaculate condition, plus the insurance was affordable for someone who just turned 18.

    if i was looking to up the power from 75bhp, what would be my best bet;
    wait til i have a years NCB and put a 1.6 VTR engine in,
    or put a bmc induction kit, new manifold and exhaust system in now or throught the next few months?

    hope yas can help me

    cheers

    To get VTR speed youd need to get a stright through system, 4-2-1 manifold, better induction kit, strip it out tbh. James_Bristol on heres done that and its vtr pace.

    Putting a VTR lump in means insurance issues, also might make it harder to sell as it will be a VTR but have rear drums unless you sort that out.

    Either way the performance wont be awesome, but id go for the 1.4 tuning route because in the end youll have a nice sounding car with a freely flowing exhuast system so youll get better throttle response. Thats just my opinion though. I dont think the VTR lump is really worth the upgrade, VTS would be but i dont think the 1.6 8v justifies the cost

    yeah for the cost and hassle of running right etc, stick with what you have

    i was wondering about this

    after much thought i decided im going to get the 1.4 track worthy and then get a vts after a couple of years

    One big point is that if your willing to stray away from good looking cars you can find some top class performance cars with insurance the same as a low spec saxo. Old suzuki swifts for example, they look shite but theyre rapid

    even with a few mods like manifold, straight through system, decent enclosed ind kit, and a FULLY stripped car, i think you might JUST keep up with a VTR! but i'd wait and buy a VTR imo!
