lambar senser query

Had a piper manifold fitted yesterday by a garage and they took 1 of the sensors off which led the engine mangement light to cum on so i took it bk and they reconnected the sensor n tie wrapped it to the engine should this bring the light bk on if so how can i stop it

you can buy a sleeve (sleave, sp!) which the sensor plugs into, this will stop the engine managment light coming on.
i think its GMC that make one, i may be wrong tho

The bloke is right, but by having it just tied out of the way your risking water etc getting to it causing the sensor to fail. Plus it gets very hot, so a sleeve is the safest bet:

    its only 12quid

the mechanic is right. the sleeve doesnt always work

EDIT: it prevents a fire occuring. The light will always come on if the ECU is working properly

btw why would the sleeve not always work?

I dont know the mechanical info behind it but I believe the ECU puts the EM light on as the reads too big a difference in the exhaust gases flowing into and then out of the cat.

There is a sensor before the cat in the downpipe and one after the cat. The ECU thinks something is wrong as it is reading high CO2 before the cat and then clear 02 after.

The big difference in C02 puts the EM light on as it thinks something is wrong

Ok well iv heard from lots of people that these do work, although im yet to get my manifold from GMC, but when I do il be getting a sleeve

Personally I didnt like my car decatted as it sounded like a tank in 5th gear. Not to mention the fine you get if the police check your car

did you manage to resolve the EM light coming on in the end? or is that why you changed it back over?

the EM light stayed off for about 3 days with the sleeve on. I simply stuck black tape over the light LOL but I was worried the light being on might affect the car in the long run so put the cat back on. If the light had stayed off I probably wouldnt have changed it back just for the hassel.

As for power gains I didnt see/feel any so didnt see the point in having a decat - just adding more to global warming, meaning more rain in June lol!!

So what your saying is the sleeve didn't work for your car then?

My engine manageent light is on constant. Just lights up thinking there's a problem with your cat (as it's not doing it's job of cleaning the fumes). No biggie really, as the car is apparently meant to run too rich and over-fuel, but I haven't ever noticed the difference at all tbh.

I got a spare GMC sleeve for the lambda if you want it. £20 inc delivery (still in wrapping - unopened). PM if wanting...
