still unsure about air filters!!!

Hi, looking at fitting new exhaust as my standard one has blown twice and its now time for my lazy arse to do something about it. also wanna pop on an air filter, have read the sticky but still cant decide whats best. problem is my car does tend to get quite hot (must be the age), so a cone filter prob isnt the best. Im not looking to increase car performance, just want engine to breath good as well as sound nice with new exhaust.

any advice on which filter i should go for?

you certainly need an enclosed. The ones mentioned in the sticky will all offer similar performance gains so really the choice is which one can you afford and which one do you like..

I prefer the look of the cone, and like the idea it improves sound as this is more what i want (better sounding engine), but obviously since my engine gets pretty hot, the panel filter would be more suitable i suppose. am i right in thinking this?

The 1.4's get quite hot anyway..

Hi, the whole idea of the sticky on both Airfilters and exhaust would be so that people like yourself could have a read and make a sensable question like you have posted not just 'Hi, what airfilter is best'.

When you say hot, do you mean temp gauge goes over half way under normal driving?

If so change you thermostate, easy and cheap under £12 from main dealer.

Back to the question tho, basically in a nut shell Open filters are pretty much just for noise and small performance gains, enclosed filter will offer greater protection from heat soak issues but are that little more expensive.

I dont think you hear many compliants about a RaceLand enclosed scoop filter.

Ask kam-racing to double check if the kits he has will fit your 1400, which Im sure they will do and go for that.

They are not the ultimate best filter in the world but for the money they are better than plain simple Open filters

temp gauge sits just above 3/4. sometimes on long fast drives, its just off the red. thermostats fine and radiator has no blockages, just seems to get hot easily. but sounds as tho enclosed filter is the way to go. thanks!

Im sure you will find something is wrong shortly mate, as my furio only ever goes just over halfway when the fans kicks in and it goes down just under halfway. If yours is going just off the red something is wrong

Cheers fella, hoses are just universal stuff off ebay, I got the 30 metre kit LOL as it had enough different sizes for the whole bay. Cost around 25quid from ebay seller regals motorsport

Best thing to do is empty the whole system, replace the thermo and refill the system (dont forget to check for airlocks when refilling) and take it from there as its always worth checking and sorting problems out first before looking to improve performance.

Might also be worth having the coolant system Dye tested to see if there is any CO2 ir exhaust gases in your coolant ie Head Gasket
