How i repaired my sunroof leak?

  1. #1
It all started when i came out of work last week and got in my car 2 discover a puddle in my passenger footwell. So i set to fix it straight away.

    Tools needed

Slicone and Gun any old slicone will do
    Torx screwdrivers various sizes.

Firstly i removed the interior lamp and the square insert on the sunroof trim. Behind that there is a 25 torx screw remove that then remove the winder also a 25 torx screw. Behind that is another torx bit also 25 remove that the remove trim.

Then remove sunvisors there are 3 screws here all torx not sure on sizes though. Then remove grab handles also torx then remove the clips on drivers side where grab handle would be. The pull down the tops or the door seals and the front of the headlining should drop down. By the way do be careful not 2 damage the headlining.

Then slicone alround the sunroof cassette no the glass itself. After this makesure the drains are not blocked and water runs though them they may want a clean out use a welding rod or airline.

Then refit all this in reverse order. After this makesure the seal below the glass is clean and fitted properly and makesure the sunroof is generally clean.

Since carrying this out on my car i have not had a leak since but is really a trial and error in away. I will post pics soon. Good Luck and enjoy having a sunroof as i di now

here is the left side drain pipe, i check to see if it was blocked but it was fine, its a real bad design as the hole is not at the lowest point of the corner meaning that it holds a little bit of water and it just sits there so it was a little shitty so i cleaned it up and then undersealed it,

    after:

heres a quick pic of the pipe from the inside:

with the frame out i dryed it off completely and then siliconed aroudn the outside, it was then refitted and the glass rubber also refitted with silicone.

now like i say jsut got to wait for the silicone to set then i can sit in the car and water test it while the roof lining is still down so if it does still leak i can track it easy but i dont think it will leak as i cant see anywhere i havnt sealed but we shal see

i coudnt get my cassete out, so i dropped the headlining and sealed from underneith instead of on top, drains are unblocked so shouldnt be any probs, i hope

Pro Saxo Trip: The bolt next to the bonnet release catch can crush and block off the drainage pipe on that side, stick about an inch of spacers on it and put it back on

same happened to mine but i used fibre glass rasin and mat to seal mine up

Going to do this over the weekend so thought I would bump it up

don't EVER use silicone on car body!
it have acids, and will cause corosion.

I’ve just joined this page looking for some advice. My sunroof leaks because the guy that had it before me siliconed it shut and removed the weather seal and snapped one of the other parts. It leaks onto my front passenger footwell, through the interior light and all down the front window but it’s all caused from the sunroof. Does anyone know where to get parts to fix it from? Or how I can fix it? I’m located near Ipswich if there’s anywhere I could get parts from? TIA
