Heatshield Advice

   I have a heat shield that runs from my Cat down the section just before the back box...
   
   Due to the flood puddles i've driven through the last few weeks the heat shield has perished due to massive heat then rapid cooling from the water...
   
   Where the bolts fix the holes have widened, I went to fix this problem last night but with large washers, but when i took the bolts out they have sheared off just leaving a tiny thread...
   
   is the heat shield a must have?
   
   Can i take it off?
   
   If not how can i rectify the problem.

   i don't have a heat shielf where the CAT would be if it was under the car

   It's probably best to have one, as the Exhaust is so close to the floor of the car, and could possibly melt the underneath. Best to get one.

   Dont get that reply Baz, I have a heat shield on its just the bolts have siezed and snapped off...
   
   I need a way of securing it, or can i take it off m8?
