1.4 gearbox in a vtr

  1. #1
Hey i was wondering if a furio gearbox would do for a vtr conversion? Im looking at putting a vtr lump into mine and i was hoping i could use my original gearbox and radiator for the new engine??

Is this wise or should i get the gearbox and cooling system out of a vtr??

the gearbox will be perfect for it mate itll hav beter aceleration than a vtr1.and as for the rad if you can get a vts one there bigger vtrs run hot anyway

The 1.4 box will fit fine and will be almost exactly the same. I doubt you will notice any difference in acceleration… the only difference is in 1st and 2nd gear the VTR box will hit 60 in 2nd gear and the 1.4 will be doing about 55. All other gears are the same

If you’re after better acceleration I’d go for the VTS, 1.6xsi/s2 rallye, 1.4xsi, or the s1 rallye

The 1.1, 1.4, VTR and diesel boxes have a long 5th gear for economy which isn’t so great for performance

it's not the 5th gears that are different it's the final drives.
as for the cooling question, the 1.4 rad will be fine, i'm running a vtr rad on my vts conversion and it's absolutely fine with the temp gauge never reading more than a touch over halfway, even in traffic.

I never said they were different its the fact that the gears aren’t that nicely spaced out... most noticeably in 5th which makes 5th on these gearsets pants whichever final drive you use
