Cat Cams and Remap?

  1. #1
    Not anytime soon,
    but just wondering...
If I wanted to cam my Saxo VTS

All I would need is a pair of catcams 708's and a remap?

    can someone confirm this...

obv I'd need a better brake setup too, and would run with an aftermarket manifold, filter and a straight through exhaust.

you would also need a set of cam oil seals but other than that you dont need any further parts to fit a set of cams! if your going cams though. make sure they are the last on your list of mods. yet your intake and zaust system sorted 1st then fit the cams(piece of piss) then get your remap.

    cam oil seals...
    these are expensive?

Well currently, I have a supersprint race section to a Piper backbox,
    and a BMC.

Was looking at doing the brakes next tbh.

obviously, I'd change the timing belt at the same time as cams.

might be worth replacing the water pump, idler & tensioner aswell while the belt is off. so you dont have to replace them anytime soon

so camming my VTS will cost well over a grand then?

what! no! cam oil seals will be about £8 i think!

if I replace timing belt, pump etc i meant.

the only thing holding me back is the initial cost :/

yer i would advise the cambelt bet they arnt expensive! and why do the waterpump! if its not broken, dont fix it. your cambelt is a good idea though. buy the bits one by one mate then its manageable. that what i did!

and what if the next week your water pump packed in?!?! youl loose your timing marks ect because your timing belt has to come off yet again.

i changed everything as a piece of mind, which is worth it imo.

Im currently doing my mods for my Cams.

Done all the breather mods and im in the process of changing a few more parts.

Ive done my water pump and headgasket, and im doing the idler, tensioner, crank pully and cambelt.

I want to make sure everything is spot on before I put the cams and i do not want to disturb the cam timing at all once it set.

So I reccomend getting all that changed. Oh and to put it into perspective, ive had my cams sat in my room for 4 months!

Yeah i know I need a manifold, yes I know I would want bigger brakes.

Im just summing up how much it would cost.

    This prob sounds real noob.

But is it likely to be a cheaper easier job if I get my cambelt changed whilst someone is fitting the cams?

It will be alot cheaper yes, they are pretty much doing the cambelt when they do the cams anyway, you will prob be lucky enough for them to put a new one on for free
