manifold rev range

  1. #1
    orite guys,

im just lookin into what rev range the manifolds kick in at to make sure i choose the 1 to suit me.

    4-2-1 = ??
    4-1 = ??

which would be best to get for a vtr? 4-2-1 i gues kicks in at lower end which couples with the vtrs torque aswel where as 4-1 kicks in nearer top but how near?

    cheers guys

You wouldn't notice any difference on a Saxo, not unless it was SUPER DOOPER tuned.

you can notice something but its not power its more like it revving more freely and maybe pitting up that bit earlier but its nothing really

manifold wont kick in at a set rpm like an uprated cam set up will.

id choose the manifold depending on how far im going with the engine and if so where the power band will be on new cam profiles.

i am a big fan of 4-2-1 configurations

what manifold would you suggest for CatCam 708s fastworld?

judging by the graphs ive seen from daveP (who ran a tbd 708 engine) id personally go for a 4-2-1.

he is one of the main reasons the racelands became the buzz manifold, he did some back to back tests over a 4-1 and found that it had a much smoother less stepped power band, with slightly more torque and max bhp.

it would be interesting to see how the new gmc manfifolds run though as they now have a larger collector box.

    the racelands are 4-2-1 right?

    ja!

although theyre not the best build quality (for the price what do you expect)

supersprint make nice 4-2-1s but at a price.

surely theyre better than the standard though, by a long shot right?

as i said theyve got good reputation for power gains now.

theyre just very thin, and have fitting issues.

its not the end of the world, but people at times i feel expect stuff to bolt on in 5mins.

Okay ~ just i was thinking of eventually getting the VTS cammed,
might order a Raceland and just have it sitting about til i can afford cams and a map.

ive fitted one to my TBd 16v engine due to costs atm.

the primary pipes can be a cunt to get bolts on with, so dont get frustrated if it takes a while.

for the money though theyre fine.

its only because i want a pugsport 3 piece manifold eventually that im cutting costs on this set up.

ryan did george get that test on manifolds done?

qep have not 100% finished the dyno room!

also georges test will be no use to 99% of saxo owners due to the spec of it.

it will have totally different results to a std engine/mildly tuned engine.

larger primaries that he will have i expect may be of no use to anyone not pushing 180+ bhp

    thats a good point.

indeed, its something ALOT of people seem to be foregetting, george is laughing as he is getting lent manifolds to find out what is best for his engine.

and everyone else thinks that the info will be good, but in reality will only benifit a small number of people.

will it not still give you a good insight, I mean it is only a manifold after all. Everyone goes on about them like there a turbo. But the truth is you will only ever be looking at a slight increase in bhp on a std setup. We need someone to test them on a standard set up

it will for vts that are gonna rev silly high with nutty cams. so compared to a standard vts or in a furios case there will be a difference.
remember he will be trying different 4 2 1s for a nutty setup where as a mildly tuned vts its not gonna really matter

it will give a huge difference. Thr manifold is a key part of the exhaust system, its why race manifolds cost so much, its the length/bores of the primaries etc. and how well its set up for the engine that can play a huge part in the performance and drivability of an engine.

its why chucking a pugsport 3 piece manifold may not be good on a standard engine, due to the bores being way to much for the engine.

ive just bought a supersprint 4-2-1 from kam racing ill let you know how it performs
  22. #22
supersprint will have alot better build quaility than raceland, but should do at the extra "£££

do you need to relocate anything? or do anything to make it fit
  24. #24
Nope ive been told that with the Supersprint Manifolds you dont need to relocate oil filter
