GTI6 brake problems

  1. #1
Right, got the so called GTI6 283mm calipers from VRS, grinded the bit i needed off, took them round to my mechanic. He says the discs dont fit, now I ordered GTi6 discs, but theyve got a lip on the inside that he says it shouldnt have, and that the discs i had were 406 ones.

Went back to the local motorfactors, the discs are the right ones. So what discs should I order??

Also they checked the brake pads in the calipers, and they say that the calipers arent gti6 ones, or even 283mm ones, the brake pads are listed as berlingo ones among others. Pain in the arse!!

berlingos use a 266mm disc iirc. Is this the VRS in newcastle?
  3. #3
post a pic of the calipers.

  14. #14
    Getting what mate?
  15. #15
try marshalls in newcastle. there are loads of diff discs so you cant say which is right and wrong till you have some calipers.
  16. #16
Yeah but my mechanic said they wouldnt fit because they had that lip on them. Im going to phone VRS in a bit. You got a phone number for marshalls?
  17. #17
yeah, defo not 6 calipers, they have lucus and 57 on the caliper and lucus on the carrier. 57 is the piston size of the 6 brakes, from the looks of them pics they are 54mm pistons so will be 306hdi/s16 setup running 266mm discs
  18. #18
yeah they have bosch 54 on them, didnt realise thats what that meant.
  19. #19
hope you didnt pay silly money for them then, as I know the 6 setup can go for £200+ whereas the hdi/s16 setup can be pickedup for as little as £60.

Even with the 266 setup, with the weight of the saxo, they are a good upgrade, add in a gti6 mastercylinder and you'll have a brilliant brake feel aswell
