Is it a big job rebuilding the engine if you have limited mechanical knowledge??
What gerbox are you using james, and how do you go about the lightened and balanced bottom end and flywheel?
I'm sure i will have to get mine remapped aswel if i'm putting different cams in.
Also, in general, is a 1.4 engine cheaper to buy than a vtr/vts lump, or is it just that theyre easier to find?

To rebuild the engine just get a Haynes manual..

I have never rebuilt an engine before and it looks pretty straight forward in there tbh..You just need the right tools..
I will be using either a VTS Box with a lower final drive or a 106 1.4 XSI Box..Still undecided whether to go for an ATB diff or not yet..
You can buy lightened flywheels for about £60 from QEP (think its QEP i emailed..lol), for the bottom end balancing, the conrods and crank will have to be sent away to be done.
If you cam it then yes a remap would be benefitial but not necessary..
As for the engine prices..VTS/GTI engines gor for about £350-£500..Not sure about VTR engines tbh, but my 1.4 engine i just bought came to a grand total of £70 with the loom and ECU (which i wont be using)..
Also VTS/GTI engines are more common but there are ususally 1.4's on Ebay for sale..
Hope this helps bud.
