Does PowerFlow Exhaust Increase BHP & Torque?

  1. #1
Apparently they tested their exhaust on a VTS and it produced more BHP and torque than most of the other famous brands. So does anyone think this is true or just some made up figures?

with power flow its like a lucky dip as there exhaust systems are jsut made up to how u want them unlike decent manufacturered ones that have being flow tested to get the best back pressures for your requirements etc... so sometimes they can give an increase and sometimes they can give a loss in power

I would doubt that to be honest!

the general concensus is Powerflow produce some royale rubbish dude.

always be critical of claimed performance improvements from anyone who is attempting to sell something to you dude

i am on my 3rd powerflow system on my saxo and i dont think it has increased the power at all. they were only good because i wanted a custom 2.5 system for my turbo but the previous two were wank.

even when i got a powerflow system on my swift gti- it was just louder and i ended up loosing bottom and top end power. i would advice to go for a proper make system as the companies have tested their exhausts for actual improvements bud

For looks only. Go for an off-the-shelf jobbie if you want to see some improvements.

quite frankly theyre a load of shite imo.

    yes they do!!!

i could only get 95mph out of my 1.1 till i fitted a POWERflow, after that it would easily do 140mph in 5th gear!!!! and it was still pulling!!!!!!

haha, id stick with reputable brands ftw matey

To be honest i have a powerflow on mine and noticed slight better power but dnt be expecting it to pull your head off!

I wouldnt say you would ever loose power..

I have a custom exhaust made to the same bore and has the same number of box's as a pug sport exhaust and its fine..

I have played with my mate in his quicksilver which has a pug sport cat back exhaust and a raceland forced ind kit and my car is still quicker..If i had lost power through my custom exhaust i wouldn't get anywhere near him..I dont even have an Ind kit..just a full exhaust system..

If the bore is the coreect size (2") and has some kind of box somewhere along it like a back box or a mid box or both then it will be ok..

You may get an extra 1 or 2 bhp from an off the shelf product but that isn't going to be noticeble really..

IMO performance exhausts only really give you a decent and noticeable increase when combined with proper mods like cams etc..

    Yours is tracked yes james?

was your mates car lacking in weight to the same extent as yours? the weight difference on the saxo's will make a hell of a lot more difference than 1-2hp.
on a saxo, a loss of 10kg in excess weight is equivalent to about 1hp extra in hp per tonne

    same wheel diameter?

    engine health etc etc?

there's too many variables to make it a fair comparison really... although i know what you are getting at.

If its not been mentioned before check out my Big exhaust thread my clicking on the link under my signaute.

Exhausts are funny old things and can reduce performance as well as increasing it, dont go too big with the bore and reseach which you feel is gona be best for you single or twin box systems before parting with your cash

powerflow are just there for people with stupid kits or want custom exhausts, there loud and look ok (in some cases) but do nothing for performance

    His car is std inside..

Mine has almost double the mileage of his aswell..The difference is quite big though..its the same with furio's etc too..upto 70-80 mine just flies away

I know thats mainly down the the weight loss but if i had lost power with my exhaust it would show i would have thought..

Ryan-I'll just get a loan..you know what i mean by that..

Im not sure thats 100% ture but there does seem to be alot of bad press about Powerflow.

Right if you do go custom make sure:

    1) the keep the pipework bore to as close to the size of the factory pipework, to big a bore and it will lose you performance
    2) becarefull when talking about dual exits and other non-standard sitting exhaust as if the fitter isnt very good he could put in almost 90' angles which could hurt gasflow and there for performance
    2) deside what layout you want single box or twin box (just back box or centre box and back box) both will perform slightly different

    Hope that helps

well dont expect the gains from powerflow on scotswood road, they were told not to bend richies scorpion exhaust when altering a janspeed manifold
guess what they did, bent it, shittest bend in a pipe i have ever see looks like it was twated with a hammer, meant to keep the same diametre all the way through
