hi all i have a 2002 vtr (which has hydraulic tappets) with only 34.000 miles on the clock and full service history ,when i bought the car it had 26.000 miles on the clock but my problem is when i rev the engine it sounds like the tappets are tapping but on tick over it is quiet the other thing is it may be the injectoers that are making the noise but i am unsure what i would like to know is how to fix this problem i find it hard to believe that a car with this milage need the tappets changed, the other thing is i take it too a bmw garage for it sevice and they use very expensive but thin oil and i am sure the noise is getting worse any help would be great i know a fair bit about cars but this one has me , also forgot to say dont want to buy injector cleaner or engine treatment till i know what the hell is wrong thank all

#2some saxo's suffer with loud injectors mate and there is nothing you can do. also your car doesnt or shouldnt have hydraulic tappets as only vts's have them not vtr's. if it is the tappets mate get yourself a haynes manual and a set of feeler gauges and do it your self, its a well easy mate.

#3you sure its injectors or tappets? sounds like it could be ure thrust bearing ;/ ask a garage to take a quick look, wont cost owt...and if its nothing ull have piece of mind

#4a slightly thicker oil might quieten it down. my car does the same.there is a really loud rattle when you take you foot off the pedal. doesn't do it all the time though so i havent bothered doing anythign lol, besides my cars on nearly 129k lol, its just a matter of time before game over anyways lol

#5that definatley sounds like clutch mate and thrust bearing as if it was tappets it would do it all the timeQuote:a slightly thicker oil might quieten it down. my car does the same.there is a really loud rattle when you take you foot off the pedal. doesn't do it all the time though so i havent bothered doing anythign lol, besides my cars on nearly 129k lol, its just a matter of time before game over anyways lol

#6it could well be lol. as far as i'm aware its still on the 1st clutch, was mums car since 20k. i'll wait until it completely dies though as insurance is due end of this month...eeek.

#7Though it was only VTS that had hydraulic tappets....
But anyway Saxo's are known for noisy injectors, some times giving it an oil chance can quieten things down a bit -
#8any body know roughly how much a clutch would be fitted?
-
#9fink there about 150 fitted
-
#10would this cause my gears to be quite notchy and tricky to find sometimes?
-
#11becareful mate as some places can charge £300 for a new clutch and fitting. it shouldnt make them feel alot different tbh. it will raise your bite point and it will feel like its gripping alot better but other than that it wont affect you

#12i got a quote from Mr CLutch...£208.99. Is it an easy job or does it come with the usual french complications? cheers for this
