Ecu help!

The Engine warning light came on last night, been to my mechanic, who has a diagnostic suite, when he plugged it in, the device, can not seem to talk to the ECU, tryed another device , ( which was used about a year ago, fine ) same result, no comms, got to book the car in.

so, disconnected the battery for a few hours, and when you do connect it, and turn over the engine the light comes on , and stays on.

car seems to be running fine, seems 100% fine?

has anyone have an idea of what could be wrong?

It could be so many different things! The light will stay on until the problem it resolved. Exhaust issues are the most common reason for setting the engine check light on, but in your case, as it's not been read, it could be one of many things. Disconnecting the battery for a couple of hours won't do anything... As the car is running fine, it's probably not a big issue, but you'll soon find out when you take it to a dealership.

When my engine meanagement light came on I had a diagnostic but it would not reset the light. The mechanic said the car for is perfect order but for some reason the light would not turn off.

Where did you take it? They might not have the correct equipment.

as above probs not correct equipment, if you told us what car and any mods it might make it easier to suggest something but it could be any 1 of several sensors (but thats what it is a faulty sensor)

It doesn't have to be a sensor issue...

Y reg (2001) mk2 Vtr, clifford 650 alarm, no mods to the engine, the place i took it to, is in wrexham CJC Motor Services, very good in the past, he used to bits of kit, the last one, was old, but used it on my car about 1 year ago, and it did have a connection to the ecu , was ok

he used both of them, in front of me, both failed to get a connection to the ecu.

now, i do have a currant issue with the clifford, half the time the siren makes no sound.

now i have spent hours reading posts from many sites, a bad earth seems a common cause in few case's? going to check them.

thanks for the replys, very much appreciated!

    >> Have checked the earths, all ok, dvm checked, all ok, guess its not that then!

time for CJC to do their stuff!?
