In 2 days im due to drive hme from kent t the midlands and for a while i have had a crazy squeak from the alternator area of my engine bay... It then progessed into a grinding noise, thats now turned into a major rattling noise... a dodgy mechanic has told me its the crank pulley... its wobbling or summat silly...

IS it safe for me to drive home with it like this or wud u advise gettin it dun cos i aint got the muny but i got a tab run up wit ma garage bk hme and i wouldnt nd to pay instantly... n if it was to possibly fall off or something would it cause any damage... Im not the most mechanically minded person but surely wouldnt i b able to jus tighten it up....

    Thanx for any replys...

if the crank pulley is fucked you need it fixed.
if it falls off you will stop on the road lol
new ones are over £100 irc.

gmc used to make solid metal ones as its the rubber that perishes on std ones.

most probablies the pulley mate, the belt may have been to tight

you might be ok to get to where you want to go but id get yourself to a crapyard or breakers to buy one , there only aabout 30 - 40 pound and you usually get a few weeks warranty with it

yeah easy job mate, put it up on some axle stands or even quicker some ramps, and there we go its just basically an unbolt and loosen off job and then new one on tighten everything up and tighten the belt up

oh along with a few plugs that go into the alternator obviously
