98BHP head on 90BHP engine

  1. #1
I have a early mk2 saxo with the 90bhp silvertop engine. Does anyone know if a 98bhp head would fit and what would have to be changed if I did it?

    Thanks a lot

it should go on mate, you are on about where the cams go right??
  3. #3
Yeh shud fit.....same size i think.....the 98bhp got extra 8bhp cos ECU? am i rite?
  4. #4
I'd expect so vtr-chris, the only difference is one cover is black and the other is silver iirc.
  5. #5
yeah mate think the ECU was programmed for more intake of fuel and air
  6. #6
and i think the injectors are different.....cos i got one of the last VTR's they made (2003) and the injector block looks alot different to the W reg 90bhp versions

I always wondered so will the later 98bhp versions be quicker then yeh? then the 90bhp ones?
  7. #7
well yeah dont think theres that much difference though tbh
  8. #8
You will only notice the difference once you get going..But still not much tbh..

As std they will be the same cus the 98bhp version has a more restrictive exhuast system. MK1s are supposedly the fastst overall as theyre slightly lighter

ive got a black top 1998 guessing mark 1 is that the 98bhp or 90?
  11. #11
    90 mate
  12. #12
ok cheers :\ all abit confusing lol
  13. #13
mines a black top 90bhp one, they're really perky when its a cool morning and you have little petrol in the tank, you can really tell the difference to a fuller tank!!
  14. #14
    90 bhp 960kg 98bhp 1060 and 8 bhp difference
  15. #15
my VTR weighs 920kg and its a 98bhp version.........both weigh same according to Parkers lol
  16. #16

No, the inlet and ECU setup is not even close to the same. So it will bolt on the block but that’s it. If you want a 98bhp engine the easy way is to swap everything from a 98bhp car including full engine, dash, ecu and loom. Well easiest is really just get the newer VTR. But the old VTRs are very easy to tune! So there is little point sticking the new one in if its power you are after.

the head on my 90 bhp vtr is craked. my mate has a 98bhp engine in his garage which he would give my the head for free. i was thinking this would be ok if a kept my 90 bhp inlet etc with all the 90 bhp ecu and plugs.
Can you point me in the correct direction ax racing please
  19. #19
Its a good plan but when you swap them over you will see your inlet will not fit.

Mine weighs 843kg and it aint stripped out that much....

    Figure that out.

yeah but he is on about a mk2 vtr which are heavier, people say you dont notice the difference between the 98bhp and the 90bhp.
You do, obv down to driver but 98's always used to slowly pull away from me

If they look the same he may not have a 98bhp engine but really a 90bhp.

I agree with the whole 98 bhp's slightly quicker than the 90's..

I have played with both and the 98's have more pull in 3rd, 4th and 5th thn the 90's..

Not a huge amount you can notice it..

If its a 98bhp it will not fit a 90bhp inlet.
