If i was to have the head polished and ported on my vtr what sorta difference or gain am i looking at?and where can i get this done in wales area
polished and ported head
-
#1
-
#2we get Citroen Motorsport heads for the C2 R2 which give gains of around 20bhp
-
#3do you have them for vtrs?how much are we looking at roughly for the work to be done or buying a new head already done?
-
#4on its own not much
-
#5well obviously a cam would come later on,but lets just focus on the porting and polishing for now
-
#6find what cam you want, then match you headwork to it. you mayt want to both at same time while head is off.
you also want to weigh up is it worth it to have it done even when cam is in. good headwork, bolts etc and labour, etc it adds up to alot considering the amount of gain you will get even with cam -
#7money aint gonna be no prob shortly,so im just planning everything out and managing my money.im willing to spend upto 1000quid for a cam fitted and remap, then trying to find out how much polishing and porting costs and where i can get it done.or is turboing a cheaper option lol
-
#8a turbo, supercharger is cheaper power to get than NA but initially youll have to spend a lot to get it.
-
#9well im gonna see a mate tomorow to see about getting the head polished, ported and skimmed, what kind of difference will it make just on its own before i get everything else done
-
#10Good places for VTR ported heads are GMC and Longman
-
#11but the question is still, what difference am i expecting from a polished ported head,it will also be skimmed
-
#12it aint gonna make no difference at all really until u get a better cam in there ur lookin at around 400ish for the head to be port polished and skimmed. them c2 big valve heads are good but gonna cost u around a grand. a decent turbo setup runnin roughly 180bhp in a vtr ur lookin at 4000 if u get it done properly. but then ur gonna need a diff and a better clutch and gearbox. if u do it yourself is gonna cost bout 2500 but alot of man hours
-
#13ok so ill have to get the polishing porting and cam all done together i think is the best bet.but theres about a thousand different cams to pick from??i just want more pull really, whats the best bet
-
#14i personally think piper r the best mate. go on the website. apparently to fit cam on a vtr its best to do the head and whilst its of easier doin it at the same time. get a manifold in the mean time whilst ur waitin will make a difference mate
-
#15well how much u gotta spend?
-
#16well it wont cost much,my dads mate does it see, then my dad does him favours, last time he transplanted engine and stuff for me in my old car and just had to decorate his living room for him lol.so really buyin the cam kit is whats gonna be the expensive bit as he can port and polish the head.theres all different cams though how do i know which one to get?
-
#17wot vtr u got mk 1 or mk2?
-
#18have u changed the exhaust on it at all mate? no point puttin cams in runnin stndard exhaust
-
#19its mk2 98bhp,and i got a longlife exhaust yeh mate
-
#20add me on msn
-
#21pm me ur addy then mate n ill add you later
-
#22good headwork will be around 500 mate.
-
#23No point getting a head ported until you've made your final decision on what cam you want, so theat the porters can do the headwork tailored to your cams duration and air flow requirements.
And don't for gods sake take it someone who does the work in their shed with a Dremmel. No flow bench = cowboys.
